merlin1969 Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/pep-guardiola-agrees-coach-man-9224087 Bayern Munich coach has reportedly agreed to replace Manuel Pellegrini as Manchester City manager for 2015-16. Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to manage Manchester City next season. The Qatari-owened global sports channel beIN Sports' Arabic account tweeted on Saturday: "Urgent - sources beIN SPORTS: Manchester City reached a tentative agreement with Bayern Munich coach Guardiola to train the team for next season." While it is no secret City chiefs Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are desperate for Guardiola to coach The Blues, the Catalan is contracted to Bayern Munich until next year. However, Guardiola's position at Bayern has weakened following the midweek Champions League semi-final drubbing they suffered at Barcelona. Bayern were also eliminated from the German Cup semi-finals in a penalty shootout defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week. City boss Manuel Pellegrini has been roundly criticised in recent months over the deposed champions' European form and their unsuccessful defence of their Premier League title. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/441253/Man-City-eye-Pep-Guardiola-availability-Bayern-Munich-slump But City denied last night that an agreement was already in place for the Bayern boss to take over from Manuel Pellegrini at the Blues. There were claims in the Middle East that Guardiola was on his way to City after a verbal agreement was reached. That followed Bayern’s fourth successive defeat yesterday against Augsburg – 1-0 to a Raul Bobadilla penalty, which was conceded by Pepe Reina who was sent-off for his challenge. City insist that Pellegrini, 61, will continue as their manager. Guardiola, however, is Abu Dhabi-owned City’s top choice to succeed the Chilean. But former Barcelona boss Guardiola, 44, has always insisted he will honour his contract in Munich, which has another year to run. His Bayern team, though, face another beating this week against his old club Barca. They go into the second leg of their Champions League semi-final 3-0 down. But a City official said: “That claim is nonsense and we completely dismiss this report.”

Ashley Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 Pep is the most overrated manager in the world.... Stop it
ealingfox Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 Saw these reports coming out yesterday but I was watching Barca and Madrid after us yesterday and Guillem Balague was quick and firm in saying that the rumours were bollocks.
Dan Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 Pep tried to improve on perfection and paid the price. He's obviously very, very good, but there's something missing with him.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Overrated, behave. He'll never have the success he had at Barca because he was engineered to be their manager since his teens. He was the club as much as the club was him, a perfect example of la Masia at it's best. But calling him over rated is just silly. City have been building a Barcelona back room at the club ready for him for a few years now, he'll win the league with them if he comes, guaranteed. He'll improve on their European showings, too, and you can be sure that Mourinho won't be happy to see him rock up in England. That's all if it's true.
Leicesterpool Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 It's alright bringing these top coaches from europe, but will they be successful in England?. As people say the Premier greed is one of the toughest league's in the world, maybe even the toughest! Some have come over here have been successful while some have been a major flop.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Who has come here as a genuinely top manager and flopped? Mourinho has been a success, Ancelotti won the double, Benitez won the Champions League and lost the league only to Ferguson (no real embarrassment there.) Who else? Pellegrini and Mancini weren't ever really considered top class managers abroad, just fairly good ones, both did fairly well here just not amazingly. Nationality is ****ing irrelevant. Good managers are good anywhere.

Jaspa Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32689282 Pep Guardiola: Bayern Munich boss says he will stay at club"I've already said 200 million times - I'll be here next season. That's it," the ex-Barca boss, 44, said. "I have a year left on my contract. Next season I will be here."
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 None of those were considered top class managers abroad. Magath is a journeyman, Big Phil is an international manager with a mixed record, Ramos did "alright" with Sevilla. None of them came here with the reputation of being world class.
Footballwipe Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Andre Villas Boas, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Felix Magath, Juande Ramos. lol
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Bayern sacrificed a high tempo, pressing, direct and attractive style of play that won the treble under Jupp Heynkes for a play style that is obviously far inferior for that group of players. They are in line to get tonked in the CL semis twice in a row this season, while under Heynkes they were the tonkers.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Which is exactly why Pep won't have that level of success at a club besides Barcelona unless he takes a huge chunk of his career and spends in transforming an entire institution that's willing to be changed. City will be far more compatible for Pep than Bayern. Not that he's done badly there. There's no shame in being beaten by the current Barca side. They're in terrifying form.

So you're saying he can't make Bayern the best club in the world despite them almost being there, unless he has decades to mould the club? Doesn't scream best manager in the world to me, it says that he's a good manager that can do well with the best players in the world at his disposal.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Sorry, what? He can and quite possibly will make them the best club in the world. He certainly hasn't taken them backwards, in my opinion, I think Barca and Real have improved since Heynckes won the Champions League and I think Pep is a bit unfortunate at the moment regards injuries. What I said is that I don't think he'll recreate the dominance he had at Barcelona without an entire club shaping itself to the philosophies he was ingrained with at La Masia. His Barcelona were probably the best club team of all time, regardless of who found them boring or entertaining.

Fair enough, is Luis Enrique going to get the same amount of credit if they dominate like this for another season or 2? They're playing a different way to Pep, a lot more positive with a killer instinct. He has had unfortunate injuries at Bayern but to me it just highlights his weaknesses. It shows that he needs the best passers in the world to play his way and when he doesn't have those, he doesn't adapt that well. I couldn't see him doing that well at somewhere like Utd or Atletico.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 But equally, I don't think Diego Simeone would have gotten anyway near the success with Barcelona that Pep did and nor would Mourinho. Pep didn't have Messi, Neymar and Suarez (arguably the best front three put together in modern football) to counter with, two of his most effective players (after Messi) were Pedro and Biscuits, who'd be on nobody's World XI. People are always keen to buck the trend and shoot down those who are successful (I'm guilty of it with Mourinho, I admit) but Pep's Barcelona were a force of nature and they needed him as much as they needed Xavi (who has never been as good without Pep at the club) or Messi. I much prefer watching this Barca than Pep's and I preferred Heynckes "Kloppo Clone" Bayern to the current one. But that's not to say Pep doesn't have a terrifying Bayern side either. What they did to Shaktar and Porto is illegal in several small countries. Absolute devastation.
Stevosevic Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Pep took Bayern backwards, he changed the way they play when it wasn't needed.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Needed is irrelevant. They wanted Pep, they got him. You don't hire Guardiola then complain he's playing tiki taka. It'd be like hiring Simeone then moaning that your team is defensive and has a shit disciplinary record.
