It is getting worse now. Here is something from the Yorkshire post. This is just one story. Plenty more in m sig link.

The situation in Leeds when I left was terrible. Three hostels had been closed, leaving the council having to place people into housing which they (the council) had to pay the rent to landlords. They would then move these people into our hostel and tell us we needed to move them on within two weeks. It was essentially treating people like cattle. For all the money that Leeds has had pumped into it, the council's cuts to the homeless service was nothing short of brutal.

It  is ridiculous the timescale for moving people on. A lot of them are not ready. The care workers know it and they say it themselves. Within a few months they either are out  on the streets or back to old habits. It is the social services careworkers and volunteers left to pick up  the  pieces. Charities are overloaded with cases that could have been prevented.

There is more money wasted with the plans for saving money. If you sit on a tree branch and saw the part nearest the tree it is very likely you will fall.

You can't really compare British expats and immigration into the UK.

We only really have a significant population of expats in Spain (as much as 800k) but when you compare that number to the amount of immigration we've had in the past 2 decades it's barely anything.

Most British expats are wealthy and go abroad to retire. They don't take jobs, lower wages, use up school places, use up cheap housing stock etc. They take plenty of money and are a real stimulant to the Spanish economy.

Immigration into the UK is obviously a very mixed bag in terms of positives and negatives. Immigration from outside of the EU is mostly a bad thing, especially the type of migrants trying to get over here in HGVs from Calais.

Why do we call foreign people moving country, immigrants but British people moving country, expats?

It's a white western thang. Unfortunately It depends on social class, country of origin and economic status.  Just one more way we try and feel superior about it.  Pathetic really.

Bi off topic but there's quite a few Polish lads (including some on this board I believe) who go down the City and have adopted us as their team. Met a couple and they're top blokes.

just using this, no attack on you voll blau, The Polish have been intigrating in British culture for 100s of years, especially after

WWII. ..I intigrated into dutch,Spanish, French, German, India culture when I was there, (still in Germany, now my home).

But in general also alot of europeans have their own enclaves when they emmigrate, Our migrants from Asia, Africa, etc,

do have it more difficult, but some try ,others do what brits do abroad, and create theme restaurants and areas.few Europeans could find their feet in those asian, african nations. The good few attempt to try the language.

I believe 'We dont' I wouldnt say to a local I am an expat.

We tend to use it I believe it to explain, one no longer lives in the country of birth.I hear that from many other nationals.

Plus I suppose its the individuals perspective, I use , he/she is of this or that desent, IMMIGRANT I tend to use in past explanations, and not as any stigma, and if I hear use immigrant , I see it as fact not a negative tilt.

You could say also, Cliff Richard is an indian migrant, but not of Indian desent

Statistically immigrants are much less likely to claim benefits than natives.

Also, immigration is currently the difference between gdp growth and recession.

Let them all in I say. Open global borders. Anyone can go anywhere. A truly international community.

Come to Wycombe, and you will witness a sea of non white claimants, and Poles.

He never said they didn't claim but are less likely to, that's fact.  And I hope if they are eligible and fall on hard times and need help they get it just like brit's working in Europe could.
