srbfox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Anyone ever asked for a pay rise and got any tips. I need one as I got a baby on the way but want to steer clear from this when I request it. I got a list of my achievements and feel confident with this. Any other suggestions or words of wisdom?
whoareyaaa Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Always go in as high as possible because he/she will no doubt cut you down, so if you have a paticular pay rise figure in mind then stick another 10/20% on top get the most out of this, you also have to remember you probably won't get another one for the next couple of years so you have to factor that in.
srbfox Posted 9 August 2015 Author Posted 9 August 2015 I was gonna go in with just 5% but will defo take that on board as you rightly point out that I won't be able to ask agin for a few years
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Don't say how much you want unless asked. Always a chance your boss might offer more than you were going to ask for. If you ask for less, it ain't going to go up.

Think why you are of value to the company and highlight this, ask what more is required of you to reach the next targets and how you could become more valuable.

Captain... Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 You have to justify your pay rise. Try it with us explain in here why you need a pay rise and I'm having a baby is not a good reason. One approach is to ask about pay grades and how to move on to the next level, or what you can do to move to the next pay level. I wouldn't go in with a figure I would just open with a conversation about pay grades and pay rises, and then go from there.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I did it the other week and got it. I just said that my work had improved a lot over the past year and I felt I deserved a bit more and he agreed. Helps if you have a nice boss though.
Soar Fox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Go on strike if they don't give you a pay rise. That's what I did last year.
AKCJ Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I got bollock naked in front of customers until my boss caved in. Worked 3 times now.
Buzzell Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 If you feel like you deserve a pay rise then go and speak to them about it. I've recently asked my boss to review my wage and asked for it to be risen. I know and he knows I deserve it. Within a few days he told me that I was getting one but didn't specifically say how much more I was given. If I feel that I deserve abit more, without taking the piss, then I will go and have another word with him.
