Gave me a telling off for a wild frustrated swing at an oppos leg. Good ref We had Paul Danson refereeing us one Sunday about 8 years ago. He booked me for kicking the ball at some hobby cvnt on the sideline. My claim to fame is I've been booked by a referee who has also sent Peter Reid off.
MooseBreath Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 That was correct a few years ago. It's a lot more now since the new tv dealI don't know, but the website I looked at quoted those figures for 2015. It said that the top referee (can't remember his name) earned £120k in total last year but that included European and would cup games. I think a standard lower prem or championship referee is quite poorly paid for the abuse and profile they have to put up with, but then again a lot of them seem to love the attention.
ScouseFox Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Are they mistakes though? Or are they just different opinions? There are virtually no errors in law that the referees make, but errors of judgement are just different opinions "in the opinion of the referee" is probably the most common used phrase in the Laws of the Game cheers for this line tho next time i fu ck up in work or otherwise i'm all "it was just a difference of opinion!"

Dexter has never reffed a champ game but was fourth official on numerous occasions between 08-12 in L2, L1 and Champ. Kevin Friend also refs the alliance but I've never had him. He took charge of the 2013 league cup final. Good ref
ScouseFox Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 "youve burnt the tea again you idiot" "actually it is just a difference of opinion" ---------- "what do you mean you lost £300 quid in the ladbrokes?" "well in my opinion i didnt"
AKCJ Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 So referees make mistakes on a regular basis and nothing happens. Referees make a good decision and they get a bonus for it. Why's that fair? I think you're missing the point of a bonus. Referees are less likely to make mistakes because they'll want to keep their bonuses. It's the whole point on offering them the incentive to improve and maintain high performance levels. For example, it would be completely unfair for a referee to lose his bonus because a player dived whereas it is completely fair for a referee to get a bonus for realising that a player has dived and giving the correct decision.

Referees have a hard job and will make the odd mistake now and again I can accept that. But some of the decisions they give makes me wonder if they do genuinely know the rules of the game or are they watching properly. Do you remember the Tottenham goal that was ruled out for offside last season. The player was in his own half and they still flagged for offside even though the ref was about 10 yards away. Now if you are going to reward referees for doing something well you should also punish them for bad mistakes.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Had no issue with that figure, then I remembered Jon Moss...
Gerard Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 They should do it for the love of the game, paying these guys is a waste of tax payers money. I don't think the government pay referee's wages.

He thought that Vertonghen was offside and in the opposition half, which he wasn't. Shit happens unfortunately. The idea of bonuses is to reduce mistakes. The punishment for making an error is that you lose your bonus.
Lionator Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 It takes referees years and years to reach that level plus they often make many sacrifices to get there. If they're good enough, then they deserve that salary.
Guest Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Had no issue with that figure, then I remembered Jon Moss... Or Gavin Ward. I think we can divide that figure by 10 for him

They shouldn't be getting bonuses for what they are supposed to be doing anyway. So if Vardy dives next week for a penalty and it doesn't get given do you think the referee should be rewarded for that? Surely that's his job to spot things like that anyway. Why pay them extra for something which is part of their job.

"well in my opinion i didnt" I love that the first generic mistake you thought of was "burning the tea"
