Bridge Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Timbers in a rematch of MLS cup final against Columbus this afternoon. Any opinions on Jack Barmby? Apparently we've signed him on loan for the upcoming season.
Jordan Posted 6 March 2016 Author Posted 6 March 2016 First three games of the season: -Red Bull have 63% of the possession and lose 2-0 at home to Toronto. -Chicago 3-4 NYC featuring a Tony Taylor goal for City after a defender missed a clearance and kicked a teammate in the head -Orlando vs Salt Lake sees both sides get a man sent off in the first half, and Salt Lake goes up 2-0 only for Orlando to score in the 94th and 95th minutes to get a draw in front of 60k. Only in America, baby. Only in America.
Detroit Blues Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Any thoughts on the red card in the sounders game?
Jordan Posted 7 March 2016 Author Posted 7 March 2016 Any thoughts on the red card in the sounders game?No complaints here. Wasyl would have gotten away with it, but it was reckless, studs up, and exactly the type of tackle MLS refs were told during the winter to watch out for.
Finnaldo Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 -Red Bull have 63% of the possession and lose 2-0 at home to Toronto. Surely you mean win then?
NYCFox Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 -Red Bull have 63% of the possession and lose 2-0 at home to Toronto. This seems familiar.
MC Prussian Posted 9 March 2016 Posted 9 March 2016 I expect, no I demand Bridge to supply us with all the latest news and gossip around Jack Barmby's initial two-month stint with the Timbers.
Phube Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 Just watching NYC vs Toronto (never seen MLS before), one question: Are all the pitches this tiny... I mean it is like a school pitch where the 18yard box is nearly on the side lines?
Jordan Posted 14 March 2016 Author Posted 14 March 2016 NYC is a bit of a special case because they're playing at Yankee Stadium--a baseball stadium--until they get a place of their own. And since the Yankees were very particular about having the baseball dimensions of this stadium (opened in 2009) match those of the old stadium (which is one of the smallest fields in Major League Baseball), there really isn't that much room to fit in a football pitch. It's even hard for me to believe, but the width of the soccer pitch has been measured at 70 yards--barely. It's the smallest field in the league. It's a less-than-ideal situation (made worse by having some of the pitch be sod that's laid on top of the dirt path between 1st and 2nd base on the baseball diamond). To be honest, I wouldn't care if they keep playing at a baseball stadium or on the roof of the Family Dollar across the street--I just want the club to sort out the shitshow situation getting fans into the stadium. I waited on line for 40 mins and missed he first 25 minutes of the game yesterday.

They played from 08-10 in Community America Ballpark, those were some weird dimensions and I remember when we played KC last year Besler said it helped him greatly with that goal they scored from his throw in. (He practically threw it into the goal) And on sunday I went through the Hardrock at the entrance... 30 mins on line but we bought a beer at the bar ha made the wait well worht it.
Bridge Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 I'm hearing Jack Barmby will be in the 18 tonight for the Timbers v RSL.
Jordan Posted 20 March 2016 Author Posted 20 March 2016 We've got Red Bulls 3-3 Houston (with 3 Red Bulls players taken off with hamstring injuries) going on right now in the 2nd half. MLS gonna MLS.
Detroit Blues Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 I thought the Toronto FC game at Sporting KC was a really enjoyable game. The refs let the players play even though it got chippy at times. I was surprised that Brad Davis wasn't given a foul prior to his goal, but that's how the whole game was officiated.
Detroit Blues Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 I don't know if anyone watched the Orlando City FC vs Portland game last night, but brek shea scored a screamer after nearly falling on his face. Also in the game, former Leicester City "player," Jack Barmby, made his debut for Portland.

He's been getting some harsh treatment for his performance in that game by all accounts. Hardly fair considering he was being played at left-back. I'm pretty sure he's more of an attacking midfielder or forward.
Bridge Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 He had a poor match along with the other 10 Timbers..he fit right in. It's hard to believe we won the cup last Dec but that's the way of the MLS.
Jordan Posted 8 May 2016 Author Posted 8 May 2016 Yeah, that was Pittsburgh Riverhounds's Romeo Parkes on Karl Ouimette on Red Bull NY's reserve team in the USL Pro (which is like the third division. As I understand it, both players had just been shown a red card just prior to that video for a little spat between them. No matter what happened prior, what Parkes did was ridiculously out of order and it's one of the worst things I've ever seen in an American game... Maybe in any game. Thankfully, tests on Ouimette at the hospital were negative and he was able to return to NY. As for Parkes, once the red mist settles last night, he issued an apology to all parties and admitted he was well out of order. The USL is investigating the incident and they announced that Parkes will be suspended indefinitely in the meantime.
Jattdogg Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 That was straight up assault. Should be thrown in jail for that absolutely no place for that in the game.
