Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 How did the experience work out with Was and Huth? As for saying "Cambiasso didn't add that much", he won player of the year FFS. To say that based on the fact two other players have been absolutely outstanding this year is lunacy. I don't want Totti, 40 is just ridiculous. We need younger Strikers and CB's without question next year as both departments are already aging. Why do you keep mentioning centre backs? Central defenders can get by on their experience, physique and positional awareness. Look at John Terry. By his own admission he's never had pace. And Huth is far from quick.Foxhateram is absolutely right. Our success this season has been to equip our midfield with pace and quickness. The number of second balls we are winning has been outstanding. When the ball has dropped just outside the penalty area, Drinkwater and Kante have won it...time and time again. This has enabled us to a. Concede fewer goals and b. Start attacking again. You love your Sqwarka. Look at the stats and compare them with our midfielders last season. Kante's are phenomenal. When you add to that our pace in the attacking third, you've got a recipe for success. Last season we were SLOW. The build up play at times was pedestrian. Can't you remember us pretty much all saying this on the forum? Sorting out our defence and central midfield has been THE difference this season. And I'd stick with younger, fitter and quicker players all day long in the positions where they need to be so. I think Ranieri will do this. The key is to retain what we have. Kante and Drinks will only get better and King and James are decent deputies. Finally, Cambiasso may have been our player of the season. No for me he wasn't. Huth made the biggest difference of all. Without him, we were likely going down. In fact, until we signed him, got him fit, and changed our formation to accomodate Cambiasso, we were frankly, rubbish.

To say that based on the fact two other players have been absolutely outstanding this year is lunacy. I don't want Totti, 40 is just ridiculous. We need younger Strikers and CB's without question next year as both departments are already aging. Exactly this, we need players that are young, quick and strong not old men who were once great. Huth and Wes have experience that is useful on the pitch, Totti and to an extent Cambiasso wouldn't be able to replicate the experience they have to their current ability and the teams demands and needs. We would have to adapt our game completely and as a result be a slower, less dynamic force. Any suggestions of player coach are a waste of money as they will never start and we would be paying a week what the other coaches get a year. I'm sure someone posted the guardian article about this story being guff due to how we play and when CR was at Roma he hardly played Totti as he was too slow for the style of play he wanted.
artursteppe Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 I really cannot imagine Totti getting many minutes game time if he came, but as a player coach, the important bit being as the new Leicester City forwards coach, well I'm sorry guys, but that would be a huge coup and reverberate across the football world. If there is interest, there is no way we can know exactly what form our alleged interest might be.# Just think how his experience could help our players young and old. Just think what effect he could have on players like Kram, Dodoo, even Ulloa, Vardy and Shinji. It would be fantastic.
Babylon Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Why do you keep mentioning centre backs? Why shouldn't I mention centre backs? He said we'd signed players with experience and it didn't work out. He never specified a position, he made a general comment. So why don't you wind you neck in and try reading posts. Foxhateram is absolutely right. But whilst your on it, yes the build up play was slow and pedestrian for a period. Funny how it coincides with period where we rarely ever had Vardy, Mahrez, Albrighton on the pitch, but we did have four cm's in the team and bugger all pace. Hmmmm.... but no, I'm sure that's all down to Cambiasso. I mean, isn't everything. You know, it's not like we were conceding goals at the start of this season even without Cambiasso and Ranieri had to change both full backs and change our entire defensive system to stop it from happening... but no, yep I'm sure it was all down to Cambiasso last year. Finally, Cambiasso may have been our player of the season. No for me he wasn't. Huth made the biggest difference of all. Without him, we were likely going down. In fact, until we signed him, got him fit, and changed our formation to accomodate Cambiasso, we were frankly, rubbish. He was the majority vote Col, it's not just my decision. Oh right... so playing the the right formation Cambiasso was ok then, so experience can add something then?
Monsell1976 Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 If we bring him in as a player coach, type role, without massive wages, especially for someone his age, his experience could come in useful. If he's coming as just a player, I would rather have a younger player who could manage most games, and who wages demands will not be as high as I expect his would be.
Bayfox Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Champions League only player, in the number 10 role. Sure he could pick a few through balls for vardy.
foxes161 Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Ibrahimovic is available. No transfer fee, big wages though. Worth a year possibly two?? He'd definitely add something. Dreaming though I suppose! ! ego too big
Richmondfox Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Champions League only player, in the number 10 role. Sure he could pick a few through balls for vardy. He's never coming to city and the club will never go after him but if this type of player is what people think will be a statement of intent to the footballing world then we are in for a rude awakening. It's progress we need not getting someone in because he was amazing several seasons ago. This is the 2016 Totti we are speaking about, slow, injury prone, 6 league games (220mins), 20mins of CL football. He would be a waste of money and a squad space. As a coach? I doubt he would come here for 80/100k a year, he can barely speak English so communication would be limited and CR didn't rate him when he was the manager of Roma. I think for us to get results and succeed in the CL/Europa next season (and beyond) we need to play our Leicester style but ramped up. More power, discipline, pace and importantly clinical finishing, all while sustaining a strong league campaign. No passengers.
themightyfin Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 He'd be a fantastic character to have in the dressing room and on the training ground, but he wouldn't get much game time. So player/coach role? Would he great to have in the dressing room? You know this how? You know him personally? He could be a right knob for all we know.
AyewJoking Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 He'd be a useful addition but cant imagine him accepting anything less than 100k per week basic so sadly no.
Freesolo Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 ego too big Yea I agree he would not fit into this team that has been together for along time, his big ego could ruin the changing room mojo and moral. But I can't deny he is a sensational player
