Freesolo Posted 2 April 2016 Posted 2 April 2016 I remember seeing Palmer play once in the mid 90s at Filbert st think for leeds, not just saying this because of the topic but he was the worst player i had ever seen square feet totally hopeless think he got subbed before half time.

Can't be worse than junior Lewis
Guest kristianity77 Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 The fact that Tiss didn't get much game time with England whilst players of a much lesser standard regularly did, shows that what goes on now with players only being picked on who you play for rather than how good you are, went on back then just like it does now.
Durnerz Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Graham Taylor was a man who left out players like Waddle and Beardsley and included the likes of Carlton Palmer.....kind of explains his 18 caps.
atomicfox Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Carlton Palmer was better than junior Lewis.just. Matt le tissier was a fantastic footballer but was usually derided as a 'luxury player' by many who value workrate over skill.kinkladze suffered the same opinions around the same time ,both were total quality though.
AyewJoking Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Le Tissier played for England less than 10 times. Palmer played nearly 20. i'll see your le tissier and palmer and raise you a phil neville.
Daggers Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 I went down to Southampton a fair few times just to watch MLT play because the man was a genius with a ball. If the national set-up hadn't been so stunningly stupid his name would be up there with the world's greatest.
aussie-fox Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 as usual i feel people aren't really understanding what he is trying to stay.
Vardinhio Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 I think Carlton is quite measured in what he says really and he makes a valid point. I read Le Tissier's book and he does have a pop at Carlton for no real reason, they did not even play the same position.
Super_horns Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Matt Le Tissier was on Talksport the other week and he pretty much felt the managers at the time didn't like him even thought Glenn Hoddle actually tried to sign him for Chelsea at the time (according to him) Even scored a hat-trick in an England B match I think... GT probably saw Carlton as a box to box player midfield maybe but he didn't exactly perform like one..
Carl the Llama Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Strongly disagree with the "get yourself off to a better club and show your ambition" logic. If players stick by their team and try to play a part in helping them reach a higher level instead of being a mercenary who buggers off to reinforce the status quo that's something you can only praise.
Darkon84 Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Absolutely no problem with what Palmer says there, he's not 'layed in to Le Tiss' or anything, he's gave an honest retort which has points behind it. Fair play to him.
