casablancas Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 So was thinking after watching Thierry on the box ... avenger made a name by signjng players from apparent obscurity and turning them into world beaters (sound familiar) but was thinking when was the last time he got this right? Henry ... Anelka... Sagna? Bellerin? I can't really recall however I am most likely wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
casablancas Posted 19 June 2016 Author Posted 19 June 2016 Sol Campbell He was really plucked from nowhere .
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Kolo Toure. Ok didn't become a world beater, but he wasn't a centre back when he signed, in fact I think he was a winger or striker. Turned him into a very capable centre back though.
Fox92 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Wenger is a genius, don't doubt that. He brought so much into Arsenal that changed football in this country. Feel a bit for him now having not money a league title since 03/04 - although look at Arsenal's finances compared to the free spending Chelsea and Manchester City - but Arsenal fans have been spoilt under him. To go a whole season in this era was incredible and the Arsenal years from approx 98 - 05, that team remains the best I've ever seen. Players like Vieira, Bergkamp, Adams, Henry, Pires etc - Arsenal were wonderful. As for turning players into World Class players, you only have to look no further than, in more recent times, Fabregas (who he moulded into that Vieira role) and Van Persie. Thinking about it, Ramsey too who is class on his day.
foxoffderby Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Adebayor was class when he first signed unorthodox striker good technique and hard to mark. Money got the better of him. Vierra and Petit were unknowns in this country before they signed went on to win everything in football
foxy boxing Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 arsene will say that because he finished second he almost got it right, the only thing his team are really missing is a world class striker but arsene dosen't like strikers he is in love with midfielders he has a whole stack of them. his teams have no plan b they can only play one way
