Have we signed Bartosz Kapustka now?

Again, I think you should read the guidelines on the transfer section. That was the problem.

It's nothing to do with people being the 'footballing supporters of Mensa'. It's more a case of people at least having a stab at making contributions to the discussion which is meant to be taking place. I don't see any problem with people who feel a swelling urge to share puns having their own thread where they can soil themselves at will.

There's a lot to discuss, even based on what little we know. Kapustka looks like a huge talent at a reasonable price, and his addition would mean we'd signed five players aged 24 and under since January. This looks like a change in policy and it'll be fascinating to see how these guys progress. Kapustka, as the youngest and possibly highest-profile of all of them, might also be the one who has the furthest to go to establish himself. So it would be interesting to know which aspects of his game people reckon are ready-to-roll, and which are going to need working on.

In short, there are obviously discussions to be had on Kapustka. If we couldn't discuss a possibly imminent new signing on a transfer forum, then there may as well not be a transfer forum. Posters like us have four choices on any given thread: say something relevant, say nothing, say something diaphragm-rattlingly funny somewhere else, or break the rules and ruin the thread for anyone who does want to discuss things.

I'm sure you are an incredibly intelligent person and indeed and fantastically nice person to know however your opinion is just that an opinion

nobody has done any harm or been rude or discourteous to anybody else that I'm aware of, most of these threads do go off at a tangent at times and this one has been no different

you come across as somebody who sells insurance for a living, a very sensible and well thought of job by the way (just Incase you thought I was taking the urine :D)

do you put the labels to the front of all your food shopping by the way?

There are elements of the 'shite' you've written that are mildly interesting.

And I hope this message reaches you way up there on your soap box, not everyone wants to be so anal and serious especially when faced with some of the mundane, baseless or eye bleedingly long boring posts from some.

Just remember different people different perspectives.

On a forum for the  football team I've followed for 47 years, I prefer positive interspersed with light hearted. However, if the anal brigade want to censor then I don't think it's the place for me as I think some, quite wrongly, have a really over inflated opinion of themselves.

It wasn't positive mixed with light-hearted, though. It was page after page of entirely irrelevant playground humour, to the extent that people could find virtually nothing related to the topic. If you want to post those things, then as pointless and unfunny as I might take them to be, you can still post them - just in a different place. If somebody posted ninety pictures of their naked arse at one minute intervals during a match day thread, then even if the arse in question was a lovely one, it would still grow distracting, perhaps even repulsive, before long.

So you're talking nonsense when you say you've been 'censored'. All you need to do is loosely respect the rules, and respect the people who did want to contribute to a discussion which - whether what they say is funny or not (and it is possible to be funny and relevant) - was shut down because people chose to have a conversation in the wrong place.

I'm aware that I'm also going off topic here, and I don't want to because the topic's an interesting one. What's more, it's important that a transfer forum can have this sort of discussion. But it would be lovely to hear some of these posters at very least balance their wonderful puns with something vaguely relevant to the topic.

I'm grateful for the psychoanalysis, obviously, but the point is simple: the jokes were totally irrelevant and they got in the way of the discussion, which meant they broke the forum guidelines (whether you or I agree with them or not) and got the discussion shut down. That's not very nice for people who might have liked to have had said discussion - especially when all of those magical puns could have been quite happily rupturing innards in a different thread.

I cannot wait to discuss the possible merits of this player, when we have signed him and I hope we do! Page after page of plane tracking, Morrisons and medical shite is mind numbing too.

I personally feel too much time wasted on summation and conjecture is pointless.

I actually think people, myself included , have got sick of the over dramatisation of the Kante,  Walsh and possible Mahrez situation. Not forgetting the disgraceful reaction and abuse of Vardy and his Mrs, give me silly harmless humour as respite from that rubbish any day!

So in conclusion I will gladly give an opinion when we have signed him and seen him play.

Absolutely. The puns and the medical jokes and the toilet jokes were just a satire, a reaction to the endless 'news' and 'reports' and 'look at these odds', when it was blatantly apparent that nobody knows anything.

So why not? Trawling through pages of "the odds are shortening/lengthening" when all that is is a reflection of popular rumour, of tweets from discredited ITKs and "it's just a feeling", are just mindnumbing. Yes, a lot of it wasn't funny, but I really don't think that was the point.

I understand what you're saying about it coming out of boredom but the guidelines are clear, whether they're too strict or not. Even if you feel the jokes were a satire (that's a bit of a stretch), it could be the case that some people expect things from a transfer forum which a transfer forum can't offer. If the only useful thing you could do in this forum was to accurately report news, then you may as well have a noticeboard and no discussion at all.

It's reasonable to expect people to remain more or less on topic. If the consequence of going so wildly off topic is that a discussion is shut down, that's a real shame for people who might have been interested in the discussion.

Transfer forums will always consist of people sharing rumours, posting links, discussing the likelihood of things happening, as well as discussing the merits of a potential signing. If the discussions aren't very interesting to someone, it might be the case that transfer forums simply aren't very interesting for that person.

'Summation and conjecture' are the things a transfer forum does. You say you'll give an opinion when he's signed - when that happens this thread will be closed and moved to the main forum. So if you don't want to share your opinions in a thread (and I don't in most of them either) the obvious thing is not to!

For my part, though, I think a forum has to both break news and discuss it. From what I've seen and the praise I've heard, it's very interesting to wonder if, how and when Kapustka will fit into our set-up. He could be an alternative to Albrighton, Mahrez, Okazaki, he could be further proof of us switching to three in the middle. And, so long as he signs, he's definitely proof that our priorities in the market have changed. There's a lot to discuss for long-time fans like you and me.

And, as strongly as I agree with you on Vardy's wife, I also understand why the mods took action with the other thread, and think it's unfortunate if we don't let people who want to have a discussion have it on account of some of us finding it boring.

Not that I am personally troubled by any of this. It just seems like a few people are at cross purposes.

Satire!? lol it's safe to say we didn't find the new Stewart Lee on the Bartosz Kapustka thread.

The puns started about 15 pages in and continued for 10 pages. Before that you had a mixture of reactions, videos, comments on the player (some were from Cracovia fans) all of which contributed to the topic. We also had the pitiful medical jokes, stuff about his pole etc.

After the topic was derailed by shit puns, the posts from Polish fans dropped off as they presumably wondered what in the Christ was going on. Personally, if we're linked with a player, I really like to hear from opposition fans as you get the best picture of the player. The rib tickling, stomach eviscerating 'satire', whilst doubtless being very noble and experimental, prevented that from happening, and if you look you can see that by the end the thread is down to a handful of posters.

So actually, pratting around is sometimes pretty detrimental isn't it?

Great read, although Albrighton is predominately  right footed, he hardly uses his left.

Exciting prospect none the less. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, when I re-read it through I realised I'd written that, and quickly changed it. Thought I'd managed to do so without anyone noticing! lol

The a Ekstraklasa is a lot less physical than the Premier League, so it'll be interesting to see how he will adapt. He isn't however a pushover, so a bit more toughening-up won't take much. Technically-gifted players can thrive in that league though - hence why he has stood out so quickly.

Having watched him for a couple of years now, I'm very excited about this move - not just for this season, but the next few too. Honestly think he has enough going for him to usurp Albrighton at some point.

I gather from this that you see yourself as something of a forum freedom fighter.

And you sound like Rick out of the Young Ones. That might be on purpose, I don't know. It's not necessarily a bad thing either.

If you'd understood it in 10 words I wouldn't have had to write 500, would I? It's a simple point: some posters took over a thread, broke the rules and as a result it was shut down, meaning that people who wanted to have the discussion weren't able to. If you can't grasp how straightforwardly unreasonable that is, then you can hardly moan at people going to lengths to explain it to you! And if you disagree with the rules, take it up with the people who run the site. They seem fair enough to me.

I shall keep this short and sweet, a lot of the  'breaking news' is total click bait tosh though.

I generally peruse ( no pun intended) the transfer thread and seldom comment for those reasons.

I will say though this lad , if we sign him, looks a very exciting prospect indeed :)

Feel like this guy is going to be special.

I say we signing will be official on monday provided his 40 medicals go through by then. Sports science at its finest!

From what little I've seen of him, he's looked like he doesn't mind the physical side of the game too much. Obviously you've seen a lot more of him than I have, but I get the impression that - like you say - the 'toughening up' won't take much.
