There is no threat. I can see this becoming the norm and I don't agree with it. I would say that Premier League match is a high risk target for a bombing. I'm almost suprised it hasn't happened already.
Houdini Logic Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 My anxious brain is definitely reading that as 'suspected terror threat'. Just MY paranoid opinion

Wonderful Given the hundreds of people stood outside smoking at every interval, this is yet another barmy health and safety decision based upon trying to create some utopian world in which every risk is effectively managed. Where is any sense of bloody realism anymore? If the concerns about people smoking outside are the supposed effects of passive smoking, it's going to be ten times worse when people are smoking in the toilets isn't it? And this will happen. It's almost impossible to police. There is SO much you shouldn't do this, you shouldn't do that cos x will lead to y and will affect someone. It's unreal, and I'm sick of it personally.

It should not be the case though that smokers interpret this as "let's go and have a cig in the bogs then" Just wait until the end of the game FFS!

Funny how it hasn't been a security threat before but it is now. There are better ways of managing outdoor areas safely than just "**** you guys, we're not opening the doors"
foxfanazer Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 After Saturday this is exactly the boost we needed! Not concerned with what we're paying him, PFA player of the year and probably the most talented player in our history. Get in a tough tackling centre mid and another defender and I think we'll be alright

Buzzell Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 I can understand why they have done it but it can be controlled if they opened the gates for smokers. I can also wait though until after the game to have a smoke. I also don't agree with smoking inside the toilets. It really isn't hard to wait 90 minutes for a fag.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 If there is a threat of a terrorist attack they would have concrete evidence to support this and surely that would mean either the cancellation of the game or an armed police presence throughout. All we have is a few chumps from a private security firm doing fu*ck all along with standard match day stewards. There is no media reports on anything related to this or any other fixture - there is no threat. They keep telling us to live our lives as normal but here we are under lock down over speculation we don't even know anything about. Get a fu*king grip.

You know that the terrorists don't necessarily give written notice when they're planning a bombing? Any event where crowds gather is likely to fall into the category of a potential target and so "soft" security measures are put in place. Controlling access to the venue is one such measure. It's only a problem to those who can't last an hour and a half without a cigarette.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 I just see the smoking thing as just another onslaught of the nanny state, which is FULL of hypocrisy. As a smoker, I can wait until the end of the game. But that's not the point for me. The locking of the doors is simply another method of control. It's OK for football fans to get pissed up outside stadia, indeed inside stadia where beer is on sale. Just see the threads on here after the Wembley game for examples. But apparently it's NOT ok for fans to pop outside at half time for a quick fag. It's all so hypocritical.
Fox92 Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 Improved security don't do anything anyway. Last season I literally walked past them and straight in the ground. They employ loads of people around the turnstiles that don't seem to actually do anything - ticket auditors what are they about!?

I suppose i'm asking for a reason, why it is on this particular fixture i'm all of a sudden not allowed out. That way we can all choose whether it's best to stay home. Although i'd rather not listen to stringer.
stripeyfox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Well, was good to see the club keeping to the plan. Doors were open at half time in our section for the smokers! Did anyone have problems with season ticket cards not working? Seemed to be lots of people queing up ?
