If Welsh players were regularly as below expectations as England's, I'd be pretty pissed.

 

We've always been pretty fortunate in that, ever since the Sparky years, the minimum you could expect was hard graft and bottle, even if we were largely completely shit.

 

England have and have had some fantastic players, Rooney included, who have been consistently shit on the international stage for years. The last two major tournament exits especially have been particularly limp and thats been with a Rooney who is much past his best holding down a guaranteed spot.

I feel a bit for Wayne he has certainly given the country good service in qualifiers and has a good goal return, and for all that he is generally the first calling point when slagging off the 12 years of utter rubbish we've had to endure since Euro 2004 which was literally the last tournament I had any pride about what so ever..........but his form is the pits and he's clearly no where near the player he was......and that player went missing every summer anyway.

Rooney has been pathetic for England, he's never,ever delivered when it matters. I'm hardly going to get misty eyed by a player who can score 4 against San Marino.

That's my point until you guys stop abusing them and the press tone down the set ups and disruption of preperation your always going to be a let down , It's an English disease , I actually am not Your typical paddy I'd like to see England do well , I have been home and away with the Barmy Army and I'd like to see Drinky win a major championship playing got his country but it ain't ever happening while people and press think it's fair game to abuse current and ex players 

 

I have not really seen any England player worshipped or appreciated since gazza in his pomp and really he was the greatest let down ever ... 

 

Gazza the imoratal English hero don't think he won anything significant either in his career ? , sorry I think he won an FA cup , just about beats Robbie keane league cup

I wouldn't even say players get 'abused'. Of course, abusing them personally is wrong, but slating them after poor performances isn't the wrong thing to do.

 

 

Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand etc were all rightly criticized for not at least challenging for major honours, considering they had a world class side at the time. Had the likes of Totti, del piero, buffon etc not delivered the international success that had during their 'golden generation', they would have been slaughtered too.

People generally will have contempt for England. The entire culture around the national team stinks and has done for years. We can forgive Drinkwater & Vardy, they're not given the opportunities others are because of who they play for and there's more sympathy as a result, especially as we know what they can do.
