Riyad Mahrez (Leicester), 7th Ballon d'Or France Football 2016: "I am very touched"

Seventh of France Football Ballon d'Or 2016, Riyad Mahrez gave us his first reaction. Algerian first in history to be included in this ranking, it is necessarily thrilled ...

"Riyadh, you are part of the cream of footballers of 2016 with the seventh.Tell us how you feel ...
I am very touched. For any footballer, finish in the top ten of the Ballon d'Or France Football, it's a dream. In addition, I am seventh! I finished a superb place behind the big players.

You seem upset. What does it really mean for the kid Sarcelles?
Emu? No ... It inspires me above all of humility. This is the meaning of my journey from the beginning of my career. When I was in Le Havre, I was always sure of myself.I knew I could do it. But to find myself at the 7th Golden Ball France Football 2016 just three seasons behind Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar ... It's something strong, incredible ... I think that my work paid but I must continue. This is not a finality. This is an award that I have to confirm with my performance. Being in the list, valid regularity at very high level.

This requires a great run in the Champions League with Leicester (qualified knockout) ...
It requires good C1, and being as decisive on the ground. The cursor is also the stats, passing, scoring important goals for his club. It is on this that we judge.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is an exceptional player. It's a hard worker, he is always looking to be decisive for his team. "
Precisely, in your last win against Manchester City (4-2), you were the author of a superb assist for the third goal Vardy. Tell us...
Fuchs gets the ball and sends a long air opening in the deep. I look at the defender Stones, I see Vardy gets going and speeds. I manage the position of Stones, I know he does not go too far. He'll wait until I control, and I'm trying to fix it and then move on.He remained at the right distance for me to achieve this happening. So I chose to write off the ball while sliding in the axis for Vardy. He did the rest ...

Your main rival for the African Footballer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, finished behind the Golden Ball FF (11th). What do you think of the attacker Borussia Dortmund?
It is a great player. He is like me, he comes from far away. For three or four years, it makes the purposes and ends at more than 30 or 35 goals in all competitions. It inspires respect. I wish him the best ...

It's like your teammate Vardy (8th in the France Football Ballon d'Or 2016) , he likes the depth ... You could play together one day?
(Laughter) Why not. It's true that it's a bit the same profile.

What do you think of the winner, Cristiano Ronaldo?
He is an exceptional player. It's a hard worker, he is always looking to be decisive for his team. This is 6 or 7 he puts 50 goals a season. What would you add to that?
What quality would you like the Real Madrid striker?
His mind. At this level, it is incredible. He has incredible qualities ... It's good for him.

Algeria is going through a difficult qualifying in the World 2018. The team will she react to the CAN 2017, scheduled from January 14 to February 5 to Gabon?
Yes, this can be an opportunity to have a reaction of pride. But Africa is a very special environment where you have to know understand the climate of the competition. We owe progress in this area there. Between us, I do not think there is really a favorite as the context is difficult.

There's talent, right?
We're not going to lie, it was a good team. I think we need to grow, and also cross bearings in our respective clubs. It takes more players in big clubs. We must gain experience in major competitions. We must continue with this generation, and CAN is a step in that evolution. "

Lets hope Mahrez pushes on after this

Vision.

When he says I'm trying "to fix it", I think he meant I'm trying to nail [Stones].

I recall someone describing him as "total dog shit".  I am all for a healthy range of opinion, but if you think Mahrez is shit (dog, human or otherwise), then you don't deserve to be taken seriously.  Do you think we could get a hat trick in the Ballon D'Or next season? Mahrez, Vardy and Schlupp, perhaps?

Why can't we have more intelligent footballers like this instead of the usual "pace and power" types.

Well it's a rare breed :D That's why I'll never really highly rate a Musa or a Sissokho but believe more in Gray's potential.

I watched this goal more than 20-30 times because I really was awestrucked by the quality of this perfect counter as well as by the pass. It took less than 7 seconds from Fuchs's (high quality, 50 yards pass) to the ball in the back of the net. Seeing it again with his explanation made me notice some details in his run (as well as Vards) his body language (small feint just before passing to nail Stones) that make the goal even more beautiful. Pure awesomeness.

just to have two Leicester City players on the shortlist is an amazing achievement and shows recognition for the last season.those two players are the ones the team look to to ignite the spark and have us alll dazzled

What sumptuously bonkers times we are witnessing ! Two of the best players in the world playing for us, who in his right mind would have dreamt about it ?

Yet i can't shake off the feeling that Kante should definitely have been mentioned in that list, but i recognize that defensive midfielders

hardly even get a sniff at that golden boot hall of fame.

He's really not but bloody good on him - he's got probably the best/most inspiring footballing story in the world but I'm not sure he's a better footballer than all of the other 22 names on the list..... is he?

Or are we just saying he was better than those 22 last season....?

It goes off the previous year of football.
