Guest CityFan 06 Posted 15 December 2016 Posted 15 December 2016 These are probably the formations I would be considering. Obviously these are general ideas so personnel in positions can be different. 4-3-3 3-5-2 Schmeichel Schmeichel Simpson Hernandez Morgan Morgan Huth Huth Fuchs Mendy Albrighton Drinkwater Mendy Okazaki Drinkwater King Mahrez Fuchs Vardy Musa Vardy Okazaki

Would personally have Gray in for Musa and King in for Okazaki in the 4-4-3 and would like to see Slimani involved wherever possible as I rate him as a goal scorer if played in the right system. Signings should mean King and maybe some of the defence will get pushed out, but 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 should definitely be given a try if we continue to struggle.

Adster Posted 16 December 2016 Posted 16 December 2016 It's not really just the formation. We're shit at the moment because we're too easy to play against. Any team who shows us respect and sits back will easily defend against our one dimensional play. Man City, unbelievably (especially after we thumped them at their place last year) were arrogant again and thought they could play a high line, they were punished. But most half decent teams who sit back against us will beat us. We need to have something different in the pipeline.
st albans fox Posted 16 December 2016 Posted 16 December 2016 Most teams last year struggled to be disciplined because we were little old Leicester, probably until we beat Man City. Then they got the message but our own discipline and the title within our own hands meant we managed to defend well enough and nick the odd goal most weeks. Now teams have had time to do their homework on us, opposition players are motivated to beat the champions, and we generally lack the small percentage effort required mentally to make the difference. This should be where the manager earns his corn again he managed to get us across the line last season and that should not be underestimated - was a huge achievement tactically. But now he needs to give the players a template to get results in the face of what the opposition have prepared to counter our predcitable style. at the moment he is failing to do so - it's time he told them how they need to play, rather than accepting them telling him they know what to do
Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 16 December 2016 Posted 16 December 2016 442 might be good if it is genuinely a 4 working across the middle. However as I see it we tend to play with the two wingers remaining on the flanks rather than a more compact 4 across the middle. Sort of: 4 1-2-1 2 This means we only really have 2 in midfield and we are getting swamped there by teams. Last season we got away with it because of Kante's work rate and anticipation.

What frustrates me is that we have some great crossers of the ball and some great headers of the ball but we very rarely work an angle and whip it in. If teams do sit deep we should make sure Mahrez, Albrighton, Fuchs, Slimani and Ulloa are on the pitch and put some quality into the right areas.
UPinCarolina Posted 16 December 2016 Posted 16 December 2016 Would really, really like to see a 3-5-2. I feel like it gives us some flexibility that we simply don't have in the 4-4-2. We look like we have a stick up our arse most matches.
