ozleicester Posted 30 June 2017 Posted 30 June 2017 This fine race runs out the back of my place https://www.avondescent.com.au/
Babylon Posted 30 June 2017 Posted 30 June 2017 I've always wanted to do it but never got around to it. How exactly do you go about getting started? Going to clubs and using their gear, just buying some cheap kit and jumping straight in?

ozleicester Posted 30 June 2017 Posted 30 June 2017 Whew, the Bibbulmum is a fair stroll (watch the heat) 1000 kilometres through some beautiful locations, Ive walked a few bits of it, but would never contemplate it as an all at once thing, im way too lazy. The Kep traack is also a nice bike/walk and much shorter lol. The descent is fantastic, over two days and whether speedboat or kayak is a great challenge, sadly often the river doesnt quite run as well as it should (climate change sigh). Let me know if you do, you can stay at my place for the before the start

I'm looking at doing it in the Spring to avoid the worst of the heat, and from what I read the shelters are circa 20km apart, so I reckon I can keep fit enough for it. I think the hardest stretch would be the first 200km because there are no re-supply points, and would involve carrying food for 10 days or so. That said, I habitually pack light, so I could probably keep the weight down to around 16kg, and it would get lighter by the day as food is consumed. 3 minutes ago, ozleicester said: Let me know if you do, you can stay at my place for the before the start Thanks, Oz, I'd really like that.

If you you're open to suggestions, the House of Trembling Madness (Stonegate) is a genuinely brilliant little joint several reasons, probably be quite busy now though. Pivni (hidden away off church street) is another great little pub. Loads of other places to choose from though.
