Anyway, we have a ton of new arrivals in the garden today:

Northern Water Snakes, they love frogs!

Where do you live, Smudge?

In Massachusetts about 30 miles South of Boston in a place called North Easton.

Lot of wildlife, deer are often grazing in the same spot.

Wouldn't eat it even if I ate meat.

 

We haven't seen a single slug since we made the garden amphibian friendly.

The wife does our garden and occasionally mows the lawn.

Found this sitting on the patio last night.  Turns out it's an Elephant Hawk Moth.  I've seen quite a few of their caterpillers over the years & they're fookin' massive, but it's the first adult I've ever seen.

got really into wildlife this past year, now got into photography. Plenty of birdfeeders (seeds, peanuts and fat balls) in the garden now but not many takers. Anyone got any tips?

Fat balls should attract the starlings ... they love them.

Funnily enough starlings are the only bird a fox will not eat .. must taste pretty bad

You can't beat my lady's garden. She keeps it nice and trimmed. Love exploring it from time to time.

I'm a gardener & if I had a pound for every time someone said "can you trim my bush"..........I'd make more money than I do from actual gardening

Bit of both. I take some out the feeder and put it on the bird table. The feeders are off the ground and in the open. There are a few cats in the neighbourhood.

You've got them in the right place, you'll just need to be patient. It took months before we got more than the odd blue tit on ours. Also, there is plenty of natural food available at this time of year - we definitely get more birds visiting in the winter when it's more scarce.

So true bud. To be fair two blue tits did take suet to their nests for a few weeks and then the fledgelings had a bit before they moved on. Not much since then, though. Will persevere.

I've got a 15ft wall, one side of my garden with honey bees living in a small hole just above head height.  They've been there years, but one afternoon they all went ape shit & there were thousands of the things everywhere.  Like something out of a horror movie.  It's a bit of a pisser that there's all that honey & I can't get to it.
