Had we gone gung-ho, it would have failed badly. I wouldn't suggest that we go hung how but I do suggest that our 2 man midfield of Ndidi and James against the might of Matic, Pogba and Mata was never going to cope and we did really well not to ship in another 4. They all played well in my opinion but boy, are we obvious or what. I know, let's frustrate them for 90 minutes with the same old formation and tactics and hope we can hit them on the break, with all that firepower, they'll never work that one out.
Clever Fox Posted 28 August 2017 Posted 28 August 2017 As a unit that's the strongest looking Man Utd team I've ever seen and I've been watching them for nearly 60 years. They seem to be moving the game in another direction of strength and power. Arsenal relies on Skill to beat teams. Liverpool Skill with a little power. But Utd is going to crush teams simply by being too powerful to handle. Don't misunderstand me they also have players who can play. But they're just so physically powerful. I felt it was a game in which we needed to play with Width. Which is why we should have started Gray instead of Okazaki. He would have given us some breathing time at the back. Valuable time to reorganize but more importantly a chance to talk to each other. Instead, we had little relief and so we were under constant pressure. Hopefully, with a full squad, we can do better in the return game, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I woudl suggest that with the team we put it it went better than expected - against a team that is in form, had a system and has the right staff in place.

It's a feeling of profound disappointment that we could have given ourselves a better fighting chance of coming away with something with a more positive set up and arguably mindset from the off, and with the perceived acceptance of a plucky display. And yet if we look at the Leicester City's history in the Premier League, our tactics have always been like that at Old Trafford. Even under O'Neill and even two years ago. Men behind the ball and utilise Heskey or Mahrez.

I'd say it was lucky we didn't concede six. They played their hearts out and but for Schmeichel, a few near misses and lucky blocks it could have been a lot worse. You can see why they've been scoring 4 a game. I think you're right for us it was better than expected.
