He wouldn't fit in with England's style of play and formation, so wouldn't get in the squad.

Been a great player for us though.

For all his gutsy endeavour, no way is Marc "one decent cross in ten" Albrighton international class.

But then again neither are most of the players Southgate picks.

So in that respect he can probably count himself unlucky not to have been at least called up and given a chance to show what he can do at that level.

Think while Lingard and Sterling are having great seasons he'll struggle.

It was last season and the season before when players like Andros Townsend and a woefully out of form/barely playing Jesse Lingard were picked ahead of him he should have at least been given a friendly to show what he could do.

He'll be very very unlucky if he retires having never been capped, but I'm not sure right now is that time to correct that barring injury to Sterling or Lingard.

The thing is he offers something different to Lingard or Sterling, which is an energy and unselfishness hat is often missing in recent England teams. He will run his bollocks off support midfield, attack and defence. He would complement the players round him and play for the team and not personal glory.

Would it work for England? I don’t know, with 3 forwards and 2 midfielders and 2 wide players I do feel we lack bodies in the middle. Albrighton as a wide forward would tuck in and help out the midfield battle and support the wing backs more than Lingard or Sterling, but we would lose some penetration and attacking threat in doing so. To close out a game or keep it tight early on against a strong team I could see his value. He can also do a job at wing back.

England are slow and boring with their passing build up play, they haven't got the creativity to do damage to other teams imo, if we played with pace on the break we have a chance and Albrighton is exactly what they need. Southgate sets England up to play like a top 4 side but forgets we're missing those players like Hazard, Salah or De Bruyne that actually penetrates defenses and causes panick, some might say there is sterling but he just doesn't seem to thrive in an England shirt.
