I thought it would be mildly interesting to know hear about how many cards have you had in your playing career and if there were any that stood out etc.

In an outdoor playing career stretching from 7 years old until about 40 i had countless yellows (i spent many years as a CB/Sweeper so solid hard tackles, professional fouls and elbows brought  many yellows) But i only ever had one red card.

It was in my late 30s, sunday league where all the reasonable old players had gone to quietly fade away. On semi regular occasions a referee would not turn up and we would have to have the home team supply one, on this occasion we were the away side and the selected ref was a cheat, clear as clear, a cheat!

After about an hour of the game it was still 0-0 and no matter how many offsides he ignored or fouls he missed it was still a close game.

Then...One of their forwards ran through the box and tripped over his own feet, everyone on the pitch and on the sidelines could see it was just a self inflicted trip... the nearest defender was not even close...but the ref blew for a penalty.

As captain i felt responsible to explain my thoughts on the decision which i diid using some choice language and honest opinion. That didnt do any good and after a very short while they set up to take the penalty.... ha and karma happened and they missed, as we reset for the goal kick i suggested.....

"Oi ref, maybe next you should take it for them as well"

Red card!!... my only ever red, for something that IMO was quite funny :)

Only ever got 1 yellow card and that was for 'dissent'.

This guy (and team) were dirty as fvck, constantly fouling and getting nowhere near the ball. One of them fouled me for the third or fourth time with a slide tackle and I said straight away 'come on ref, book him!'.

So he did. And then booked me for telling him to book him lol

It's a regret of mine that I never played regularly in teams in adulthood (moved around too much).

So, my only story is from a school hockey match (age 14?):

This horrible rat of a kid kept deliberately hacking me in the shins with his stick to provoke me, and the ref/teacher did nothing about it.

Eventually, despite not being a hard nut, I lost the plot and went to leather the kid around the head with my stick, hitting him on the shoulder.

Red card for me - and red card for the rat for persistent fouling!

As we both trudged off for an early bath (after having to run a lap of the pitch), the rat was scaring me with tales of how his older brothers (rumoured to be local criminals) would get me....he was bullshitting, fortunately.

Just one yellow by a very old referee for complaining. The chap was nice enough but utterly incompetent, he informed me that he should be at home eating a roast rather than trudging around a field in Birstall, I agreed that he should leave.

Prior to my abstaining from violence I  once lamped an Enderby player around about u16s, the ref missed it and sent off two of their players for the reaction. I was later subbed for my own good - a few of their players then added me on MSN (glory days). I went on to score a brace in the return fixture and in many ways I feel as though I should have been nicknamed the Cantona of Anstey Swifts, not only for my tarnished past, but my reform and ability (obviously).

2 yellows and 1 red.

Yellows - one for a foul and one for a handball that resulted in a penalty, despite the fact it hit my stomach.

The red was totally deserved for swearing at the ref and accusing him of cheating which I immediately regretted. They banned me for 6 weeks meaning I would miss a cup final but got it reduced to 4 weeks luckily on appeal.

On a separate note I managed to score 2 own goals in the same match once... An 8-2 victory.

No red cards for playing but I did get roped in to ref and run the line a few times when I was managing a works team.

One time i was running the line and they were consistently offside none of which their guy reffing would give. So after yet another being ignored I walked onto the pitch during play and handed him the flag say he may as well have it as it was serving no purpose and he red carded me. Obviously didn't report it as I never heard anything.

Also got duped into giving a penalty to the oppo with a dive after which the guy came up and thanked me with a big smile and a wink.

I once saw my own old man get sent off for trying to bite an opposition player's nose @Kinowe Soorie

@buzzer_b can probably attest to multiple yellows, too.

Yeh there were a couple of yellows to my name back in the Mayflower days ;)

Good old days they were.

Couple of yellows, one for dissent for continually harassing the ref for not telling me why he'd gave an earlier free kick against me. And a red which I claim was for taking the piss out of the ref before kick off, mimicking how high he wore his shorts, technically it was a red as it was the last last minute of a game we were winning 1-0 and the player had just gone  past me and was clean through on goal so I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. But the player was wearing a forest shirt, and considering how the ref had ran the game there was no way he'd have sent me off if I hadn't have been taking the piss before the start.

Been playing for 17 years now and only ever had 1 card, a straight red.

I was in the bench for the first half and the oppo centre mid was an absolute cvnt, the team I was playing with had a few young lads playing and this guy had been playing for a good few years. Every time one of the younger guys was on the ball he'd fly into challenges and take the player, all clear fouls which I'd say 50% deserving a card, ref gives nothing other than the odd foul. Half time I tell the manager to get me, 2 minutes into the 2nd half the balls gone towards the corner flag and he's after it, me being centre back go flying out to him rather than the ball and fvcking clatterer into him about 15 yards away from the ball, we both go down while down I smack him a couple of times, I get up and as he's getting up I'm swinging to take his head off and I get took out by my own keeper rugby tackling me. Both teams have handbags I get a red and then so does the dick. I'm grateful the keeper stopped me or id have had a big old ban.

Never lost my head like that before or since while playing.

Best bit was the ref didn't even put the red in.
