Oadby Town FC are hoping they will be able to carry on and finish their season, after being inundated with offers of support.

The club announced on Friday that it intended to resign from the United Counties League with nine games still remaining of the season after the club hit financial troubles and the manager, Nick Brett, and players resigned.

Chairman Sacha Jak said they had no choice but to quit the league and the future of the historic Leicester club seemed bleak, but since the announcement Jak has received offers of support from players, coaches and potential sponsors.

“There has been so much support offered that it may be possible to finish the season and then assess things again in the summer,” said Jak.

“I don’t want to get ahead of myself and say it is definite but I think we could be 70 or 80 percent close to a solution.

“There have been some clubs who have offered to come straight in as Oadby so we can finish the season and we are exploring our options.

“The league have been very supportive and don’t want us to fold, so they are giving us time.

“Our next home game is scheduled for March 23, when the international break is on, and it would be great to see a big crowd to help us get to the end of the season.”

Well what really occurred at Oadby Town?

Included to the divisions of 2019-20. Will have more Leicestershire based opposition now which will help. But bit miffed how this club which was struggling to play its next game is now on for playing a new season.

Swear it's only a few years ago that Harborough were the only Leicestershire club in the UCL? Some good derbies looking at the forthcoming season.

Yeah they have switched across three teams from the Midland Football League (Birmingham centred). Anstey Nomads and Lutterworth Town came up too from UCL Div 1. The East Mids has always been a loose fit at this level.

I believe someone involved with another local club has bought the club!

Yeah weird on that score. You’d be able to get about 10 Leicestershire based teams at that level in one division but instead split up.

As an ex-player of Oadby Town (mid 70's) I am saddened to hear of the Club's demise. They were a solid Senior League side for decades always vying for a top place. It just shows how times have changed even at so-called grassroots level. We were never paid to play, it was just an honour to pull the shirt on and enjoy.
