So there was essentially no reason to risk opening yourself up and getting beat. Because if you got done on the counter it was tie over. Straight to pks if you ask me. Best of 3 not 5 and the gk has to take the first shot on both teams. Make it exciting and random as both the keeper and kicker have to wear blindfolds. Oh and ban the stutter step kick, its not a fluid motion (dont care if on a technicalty it is, it has no business in the game). Anyone who does one should automatically get a -1.

Guess there's no really perfect way to settle anything that goes on beyond 90 minutes. Maybe we should just bring back unlimited replays on neutral venues like the olden days.

That said a replay at somewhere like villa park has more appeal currently than a trip to the KP.

Lesser teams will be happy to settle for a penalty shootout or the players are that exhausted from the 90 minutes the quality of football is poor anyway. It was a fair point I heard raised recently, so much of extra time is just rubbish, tires the players, general quality of football is poor and everyone deep down wants to watch penalties. Then you've got the factor of away goals meaning whoever is away in the 2nd leg has the advantage of 120 minutes to score away goals over just 90. There's a good case to completely scrap it.

Would stop teams playing for pens for the last 10/15 mins of normal time, and also gives them the incentive to try and attack in extra time. Scrap extra time completely and when the game gets to the 80th minute, golden goal comes into play if the teams are drawing. That would make a fascinating last 10 +mins ?
Nalis Posted 29 January 2019 Posted 29 January 2019 Extra time usually contains at least 5 mins of players getting treated for cramp.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 29 January 2019 Posted 29 January 2019 The teams in 7th-20th in the premier league and the teams in 1st-10th in the championship.
