Have any existing Sky customers recently renegotiated a good deal to renew their contract? Seems they are more willing to just let people go now.

I found this and cancelled. They sent me offers better than original ones so I stayed. Recommend doing the same, play hardball

Not sky but virgin tried to put my bill up from £79 a month (all sky sports, tnt, internet 350mb) to £174 a month! After 90 mins on the phone I got them to £80.50 a month.

Get your facts, see what the opposition are doing and dig in. Use silence on the phone and just don't lose your temper. It took me over a hour to get through to retention but got something I was happy with in the end.

I've mentioned before, probably in this very thread, you don't contact them asking if your bill can be reduced or you are thinking off leaving. No, you call them to say you are leaving. No ifs or buts, you're going.

I rang them with this very intention last year. They did ask why and I told them. (Important to do your research here on cheaper alternatives)

They made me an offer but as I was determined to go, still said no.

They then 'spoke to a manager'. I was then made a 2 year contract offer which, even taking into the 2 price increases during the term, was less than what I had been paying over the previous 18 months.

No increase and even cheaper than my current price.

What if the don't offer anything good? Carry on with the termination?

I can only speak from my experience with Virgin.

There was an occasion, 4 or 5 years ago, where no deals were offered so they accepted my cancellation. About a week later and before my services ended, I received a call offering a deal that I accepted.

That has happened twice now.

I guess there is no guarantee they will offer something but isn't there a cooling off period?

Cancel and if nothing is forthcoming as the disconnect day looms, either give them a call or see it through and go with another provider. There are more and more to choose from these days.
