Leicester City vs. Barnsley - 1998

Hello all.

I am an occasional poster, but this is my first thread.

Very sadly, due to Covid-19, I recently lost my Papa, the person who took me to my first ever LCFC game along with my Dad. It was May 2nd 1998 vs. Barnsley at Filbert Street. We won 1-0 thanks to Theo Zagorakis. I remember that day clearly and have fond memories of going with them both – however we have just one photograph from the day.

I wondered if anyone might have any memorabilia or photographs from that day that I might be able to see or have copies of?

I am also trying to locate an original or replica home shirt worn from that game, with the red Walkers logo on, preferably a small mens size. I had thought that there was a replica one bought out, but I can’t seem to find it online at the moment.

When the sad time comes for us to hold his funeral, I would like to wear that shirt and take any memorabilia with me.

Any help anyone can offer with either of these would be incredibly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm pretty sure I have the programme, if you're interested.

Hi Butters, so sorry for your loss mate, especially in these circumstances which must make the grieving process that much harder.

I remember this game very well - as it was the last game of the season Roy Cropper (OK, the guy who played him) ran round the pitch with Birchy, then ended up sitting right in front of me for the game! I'll have to search my archives to see if I have a programme...

Otherwise have you emailed the club to see if they have anything? They have a retro section of the shop but they may have something for you.

Best wishes

One thing I hate about the modern game, is the obsession with one up front.

Skip to 1m 4s into the video.

5 (FIVE) of them up front.

Brilliant!

Were you not around between 2009-2013?

We'd end up in the 88th minute, 0-1 down to some utter shite like Millwall, with Morgan joining a 7 man front line hopelessly flapping his arms around attempting to reach Kasper's punts that would usually end up knocking the flask out of some poor woman's hands in the east stand.

Thank you. If you do happen to have it somewhere, that really would be brilliant. Thanks.

Thanks very much for your kind words. Yes I have emailed Jim and he's going to put me in touch with the club historian. Thanks again.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. If anything does come up I'd be very grateful.
