Great recruitment vs great squad harmony

Our recruitment has been exceptional, but is it our squad harmony that turns good players into great players? Surely other teams scout players similar to us, but they don't turn out anywhere near as good, so I think we've created one if not the squad atmosphere for a new transfer to come into. 

 

You hear stories like we were after Jordi Clasie when we went for Kante and I'm not saying roles may have been reversed if we'd signed him instead of Kante but I reckon we'd have taken him to another level. 

 

Then we look at some of the players we've sold in Drinkwater and Chilwell, and whilst they've taken a so called step up, I'd say their big money moves have flopped. These are the players that I'd say are good players that excelled for us but can't replicate that for their new clubs.

How would you say Chilwell has flopped?

He's struggled to get into the Chelsea side ahead of Alonso and they paid £50m for him. It's not like Alonso is that great either.

Squad rotation. It's a luxury that the rich clubs have.

 

Mahrez doesn't play every minute, every week. Has he flopped?

Ben came back from his summer late. alonso has done ok so he stays in possession for the time being

Different players though as Alonso is definitely a better wing back. But I wouldn't say he's necessarily a better full back than Chilwell. I don't think Chilwell has been a flop for Chelsea.

 

Also, your point about ditching good squad harmony for a bigger challenge, is a good point but at that time you've got to make a decision about your career. Chelsea (in the case of Drinkwater/Chilwell/Kante) and Manchester City (Mahrez) are bigger than us, can offer more money and, more importantly, challenge for the title, domestic trophies and European trophies every season. That's the difference. Some players are willing to take a chance on this and why not, they might never get the chance again.

 

Honestly, the one that is the worse for me is the Kante move because he literally fvcked off when we were league Champions.

Maybe my point wasn't overly clear, but I was suggesting that do players over achieve here based on the environment and infrastructure we have in place here and therefore we make good players look like great players. I understand why players leave us and totally get it. 

 

At times, it feels like our recruitment is extraordinary but to take that example of Jordi Clasie vs Ngolo Kante, had we gone the other way would Clasie have performed better for us then what he did for the Saints. I think we are so well run and the squad is so harmonised that most players will come here and have a decent impact!

Tuchel has got the measure of his personality and has stopped picking him. Chillwell does not have an elite mentality

Before the euro's Chilwell was England's 1st choice Left side player. 

No playing time in the Euro's & Chelsea 2nd choice on the left.

Somethings happened, not good.

Its all looking a bit Danny Drinkwater.
