Leicester City and the Leicester Mercury have joined forces in an attempt to generate the club's biggest crowd of the season for the festive fixture against Crewe Alexandra at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday, December 17.

The club, whose current highest attendance this term is 23,326 versus Burnley, have reduced ticket prices for the Leicester Mercury Christmas Clash and are looking to achieve a number of ambitious objectives.

City Chief Executive Tim Davies said: "Normally, attendances suffer the week before Christmas but we thought we would try and reverse that trend this year and re-create something special.

"We not only want our biggest crowd of the season but we want the largest attendance in the Championship that weekend while creating a real atmosphere that can hopefully help inspire us on to three points."

Tickets go on sale from today (Saturday, November 19) with adult members tickets available from only £10 and concessions members' tickets just £8.

The Leicester Mercury will also be offering supporters the chance to save a further £5 off their ticket price by collecting five tokens, one of which will printed each day over the next four weeks.

The club are hoping the heavily subsidised prices will attract the biggest crowd of the campaign to date at the Walkers Stadium and offer an alternative to Christmas shopping.

Davies added: "We want to fill the ground full of City fans and help generate a real party atmosphere.

"One of the things we took away from the successful Open Meeting on Thursday night was the fans' real desire to get the old Filbert Street atmosphere back.

"We think the Crewe game is an ideal chance to get away from all the pre-Christmas hype and enjoy an afternoon out.

"We will be trying out a couple of new ideas to try and help the atmosphere and we hope the fans' passionate support will be helped by the price incentives."

City are also keen to stress to their season-ticket holders that the special offer is not detrimental to their investments.

"Season-ticket holders are not losing out from this offer," said Davies.

"They will always over the course of a season be substantially better off than any supporters buying on a match-by-match basis.

"This offer was taken into consideration when we set the season-ticket prices earlier this year."

Tickets go on sale today (Saturday, November 19) priced at £10 for adult members, (£15 non-members), £8 for senior and young adult members (£10 non-members) and for all supporters Under-16.

A further £5 can be saved off all ticket prices by collecting tokens printed in the Leicester Mercury over the following four weeks.

In a separate initiative, members of City's Grass Roots Ticket Scheme can also enjoy tickets priced at £1 for the Under-16s and £5 for all those over-16.

Not sure it's so unglamourous. At least Dario's teams like to attack a bit and play some football. It'd be nice if we joined in for once instead of waiting til we're two goals down or lapsing into our usual Christmastime malaise.

Indeed, it would be great if City genuinely joined in the spirit of Christmas and the prospective full house by going out there determined to put a show on.

Set a first for the season by playing a genuine attacking team from back to front. I'm sure Levein can book some time with the club psychologist just to help his psyche cope with the idea.

If you read this Craig my tip is to just write the names down and give the sheet to one of the coaches to read out while you nip home to recover from the grave doubts that are sure to overwhelm you.

You could even leave the subs seats empty just so the downcast faces of all those disengaged defenders don't start to weaken your resolve.

Why not offer a substantial liquid incentive if the team can score six goals? Double if they do it by half time!.

And if we're losing why not sneak Danny Tiatto onto the bench, pour the prize liquid down his throat a bit quick and let him loose for the last 15 minutes to see if he can steal it for us by two falls, two submissions or a knockout. Or all three if you like.

Either way, entertainment guaranteed! :):):)

The club/team make us feel abit more excited, happier, and us as fans will replay them.

I have said it before i'll say it again, its a vicious circle if the club and team do tings to make the fans excited, it'll bring more fans to the stadium and it will make the atmosphere, but if the club and team don't do such stuff why should the fans bother to turn up and create a good atmosphere. Both the club/team and fans are to blame, and the way to start to turn that round is just to give us a little bit of a glimmer on the pitch, build on that and you get fans and atmsosphere back...but it doesn't matter the hard earning fan will go home £25+ poorer but the players who have played poor will go home thousands of pounds richer! It'll be alright ;):rolleyes:
