The Panama papers came out and little changed. I can't see any difference here bar some generic outrage and platitudes from national govts.

The whole thing sickens me.

Well some journalists died...

Panama papers pretty much summed up in a meme.

Would be surprised if these led to anything more too.

I'm reminded of the ending of Gangs of London where the "investors" in various criminal enterprises are not only behind it all but so far beyond the accountability process that there's no question at all of them being held to account. Their control of both the law enforcement/legislative and criminal worlds is abundantly apparent.

That's the kind of power I imagine these people have and with similar lack of consequences despite whatever they might do (unless it's something utterly, utterly heinous that becomes public knowledge).

It's pretty much the same as the climate change issue in my view. Sure, it pisses me off, but only to a degree. No good for anybody being wound up about something so far beyond my control. Only solution to this crap is a global solution, which ain't happening.

These cvnts are the exact sort of people that would set all the world on fire if they didn't have their way. And tbh, collectively they probably have the cash, influence and whatever else to actually get it done.

...or to stop other people from getting stuff done for long enough for the world to burn by itself, yeah, as you mention in the first paragraph.

However, as much as each situation might be beyond the control of the Average John Smith, I view the two situations differently in terms of consequence - these folks amassing power for themselves and not being accountable for it is aggravating, but it doesn't (probably) represent an inevitable existential threat to human civilisation in the same way climate change is - a possible one through using their power to ignore it, yeah, but not an inevitable one.

Therefore, I personally can't simply think the matter is totally beyond my control and not seek to do something about it, however small - I can't have the death and suffering of billions (which it would be) in the future on my conscience without knowing that I did everything I could, even if it didn't work in the end and/or didn't mean much.
