What about Billy Sharp?

Billy Sharp is a 19 year striker who is currently the second highest scorer in the football league behind the legend that is trundle

he has netted 15 goals this season in a side that only sits in mid table.

i'm sure s****horpe wouldn't demand too much money either.

i just thought i'd mention him, cus i haven't seen anyone throw his name in the hat yet.

Not heard of him but his record looks good :)

i think he's worth a look. that is a great scoring record.

after all, that's what we need, someone who knows where the back of the net is

Thing is, he is actually getting good service at S****horpe who have some decent players. Expected to see them doing a little better than they are. Don't be surprised to see them there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

that may be so, put at least he's putting it away. do you really think that our current strikeforce would score more even with excellent service? i'm not convinced hammond and de vries would put them away. hume seems like he could be a pretty decent finisher

perhaps we should look abroad.

stoke signed bangoura from club brugge for £950,000. he's already looking like he could be prolific. at the moment levein looks no further than scotland.

get your **** scouts in order levein, there is a hole world out there!

The hammond signing was blatantly a panic buy. he needed an extra signing before the window shut.

but when he came, 0 goals in over 40 games wasn't it. i mean, if i was a defender i would be embarresed by that.

i reckon peter schmeical actually has a better goals per game ratio!!!!

There is no money for a good player outside Great Britain, unless he's a cheap one who proves to be a bargain and one who can adapt to the English system and mentality real quick.

We'll probably end up with either an English or a Scottish striker.

I just hope he'll take away some pressure from our other lads up front.

200,000 on gilbert to just sit on the bench and play in the reserves is great use of resources. i can only shake my head

Sharp was released by Sheff United after being told he wasn't good enough. Now i'm not saying he isn't good enough but he might not be ready for Championship level, do we really want to take another massive risk on a young lower level player who might produce the goods but ultimately not for a few years?

Let players like that develop in the lower leagues until they have enough about them to play at a higher level.

As for Levein looking abroad, he has done on a number of occasions. Apparently we were very close to signing a French striker in the summer from Holland, if I remember correctly?

I agree with Ric, we already have a striker from a lower league who is trying to find his feet at this level, we don't really need another one. It would be a gamble in the short term!!

I think Levein will go for the scottish option, and get someone from the SPL???

I'm not sure whether he will do to be honest. From reading his interview he says he's been told that the player he wants won't be available until January. Now if it was somebody from Scotland he'd already know that they aren't available until January whether it was a permanent deal or a loan deal as we can't get players outside of the transfer window unless they are from England. So to me, that indicates that he's enquired about a player he wants on loan now, but has been told he will have to wait until January when the club can get somebody else in? So I reckon it's a player from a premiership club who incidently can't get players even on loan until January. Does that make sense?

Yes it does, Ric!! From what your saying, it's most likely going to be a out of favour\struggling prem player, let's hope it's not another Hammond?????

Horsfield from West Brom would do for me or Matt Jansen, i'd take the chance on him.
