I have heard how these proton pump inhibitors pills arent great for other reasons but i hope to live long enough to be happy with my life and don't worry about what will or won't happen.

Absolutely. I think it's sensible to limit the use of them as much as possible, but although there have been controlled studies showing correlation with other illnesses and diseases, there is no definitive causal link. A recent study concluded that there is very strong evidence to suggest that PPIs significantly increase the risk of dementia but that was followed by another that concluded that they may help reduce it. In America, where many of these studies are based I believe I'm right in saying that they are sold over the counter, whereas in the UK they are by prescription only. This means that a great many people are taking them but there are likely other variables and lifestyle choices/comorbidities linked to the reason why they are (beyond simply a hiatal hernia) which may be the contributing factors.

i have post nasal drip issues so i choke on mucus at time

That's interesting. I went to the doc a few years ago as I was regularly waking up in the morning with this thick mucus in my throat, feeling and often, being sick. It was like clear frothy stuff. I would cough and need to clear my nose repeatedly. Once I'd yacked up a few times I was fine.

I was diagnosed with PND (which never heard of before) and told to try antihistamines and Beconase nasal spray. They worked up to a point so I tried Sudafed congestion relief tablets and they have been the best solution so far. One a night as I go to bed and, mostly they do the trick. My morning sickness/snottyness is much less frequent now.

Exactly what I've found. Do you know why this is?

I think, from my limited knowledge of anatomy, that the entry to the stomach from the oesophagus is to the right and lying on your left side helps prevent reflux due to simple gravity.

Also a weakened cardiac sphincter, which is a ring of muscle at the end of the oesophagus that contracts and relaxes during the during the swallowing process, can be a factor as it doesn't fully close and allows stomach contents to "reflux".

Then there's things called oesophageal varices which are common in long term alcohol users and are tiny blood vessels that become enlarged and irritable causing excessive production of digestive fluids in the oesophagus itself. If they rupture, it's very serious.

It doesnt help that i have right ear issues. I had surgery like 4 or 5 times on it and on the last surgery they changed my ear "construction" if you will. Its after this happened that i noticed  the nasal drip issue.. not sure if it was caused by the surgery or not.

Pretty sure I have this, experiencing many of the symptoms above. If I indulge in an evening of beer and takeaway I wake up feeling like there's a fvcking tank on my chest. Stress and anxiety are definitely factors too. Fvcking hate it but the doctors I've been to don't seem particularly interested; "maybe avoid acidic foods" being the cutting-edge medical prescription.

Also, occasionally when I'm walking somewhere I'll randomly start gagging, or kind of dry-heaving. I guess that's a kind of reaction to get the acid out. That's been happening a lot more recently.

Going to a specialist about this on Friday. Only symptoms I have are a lump in throat type sensation when I eat fast and heavy fatty food. Can feel a pulling sensation here and there during the day in my left side of my abdomen. I’m also an avid weightlifter and work at a stupidly high stress american company. See how this goes…
