Analysing why City are not claiming victory in the matches where they dominate possession and control the ball - ByJordan Blackwell

As usual its a bit if both , we are a very patchy team and even during a single 45 mins we switch from excellence to mediocrity. This is not like the PL winning team, when we maintained a generally high level of consistency. I have said this before , we lack a strong captain on the field and as long as Kasper keeps the job that will remain the case.

....we do not need to have the skipper in the midfield, you just need someone with some kind of authority out there!!!

Our mental attitude out there is weak and watching KDH now being the one to carry this team while others stand back and allows him to do so. I want to see a player bawl another player out on the pitch, let them know when they are not pulling their weight.

Possession and control does not guarantee you will win especially if you keep giving the ball away in unforced situations allowing the opposition to counter. This often results in panic defending leading to either a freekick or a corner = a goal against.

We need to be more lethal stop pissing about in the box trying to walk it in the net and shoot from distance, we at times take far too much time in the box prancing about tippy toeing the ball about !

So we essentially have a bad defence. I could have told you that…

Since Forest, we’ve been so shit scared of being counter attacked - that no one goes beyond their opposition player. Very few overlaps.

At PSV, we finally started to do it. Work the inner channels and overlaps. They couldn’t keep it together.

I’ve seen you say this on a couple of threads and whilst I agree, I think it also runs deeper/further back than that

The reason I think the argument for Rodgers staying based on the two 5th place finishes is a load of codswallop is because we are such a far cry from that team.

Ok, we finished 5th last season, but the good football stopped around the beginning of that year. We finished 5th because of the amazing start to the season (and then the Vardy/Ian Nacho partnership towards the back end)

My point is that each season during his tenure we’ve had crap results that seem to have affected his football mentality/bravery.

Was it his first full season and that Bournemouth game being one?

No doubt there were a few last season too. Each time he try’s to become more safe, less exploitive and happy to try to retain a one goal advantage. And we’re crap at it. 😂

His comments after WBA at home last year are incredibly telling too- annoyed at the first half (when we went 3-0 up) but happy with how we played second half where it finished 0-0

We take the mick out of Forest fans for hanging on to the past, but a lot of Leicester fans are guilty of it too- References to the League 1 days, or references to Rodgers first full season and the half season after that with us. In my opinion, those days under him are long long gone, and won’t be coming back.

We can still have the odd good performance of course and good result (PSV away- but we were 45mins away from missing out on our first European Semi against a side who were there for the taking- he absolutely had to throw caution to the wind, possibly to save his job)

and he’s clearly ironed out some of the issues we had, but we’re still a far cry from how we used to be, and because of being bitten in the past, those times won’t be returning under him I don’t think.

I know the volume didn't work on your TV during the psv game but did the picture not work either? PSV was one of the best performances we've seen under him. How is that far cry from that team?

I think people forget that he's achieving more this season than O'Neil did in one of his best yet theyre trying to get rid of him.

Picture worked as it showed a load of you stood in silence pal

Carry on reading if your own eyes work, to see about the PSV game

What you say is entirely contradictory....we're so far away yet 2 games ago we played some of our best football under him. Some people just don't like him and can't wait for us to not win so they can hammer him.

No use having possession when you play 99% of it at walking pace and are afraid to commit more than 3/4 men to an attack.

Reading nonsense like it tires out the opposition lol Yeah, their players having to do a gentle jog side to side as our defenders spend 2 minutes knocking it between them before kicking the ball out of play down the touchline must be very tiring.

We're at our best when Brendan has to drop his awful conservative tactics and we actually let our quality footballers loose and attack. The best thing we can do in a game is go down a goal early in the game.

It’s not contradictory

He clearly knows how to win a game still. It’s just his arrogance and football beliefs override his desire to go against them

It’s pretty evident to me

As for Rodgers, you’re right, I can’t stand the bloke 😂It doesn’t stop me appreciating the good work he has done here

Likewise those that love him should be able to understand he has many many flaws, and that maybe there is no way of him returning us to his/our former glories

I think the bottom line is, we are very easy to play against. Teams should look at our team and fear us (especially the bottom 10) but they don't as every team knows it is pretty easy to at least get a draw against us. Even teams like Burnley and Everton, who struggle to create chances and score goals, know they will always have a big chance to score against us either on the counter or from a set piece. I certainly don't want us to play like Burnley and start lumping long balls forward but it would be nice if Rodgers mixed it up a little. It feels like Rodgers would prefer a 1-0 win than a 4-0 win so long as we dominate the game and possession. Pep is similar but obviously at a much higher level than Rodgers, in that he always wants his team to play exactly as he wants and players are not allowed to do a single thing that goes against his tactics, even if its for the good of the team. I remember Henry saying when he was at Barce that he changed wings in a game as he wasn't getting the ball, scored a goal as a result but then pep subbed him for not following orders. Pep can back this kind of thing up with his results, but Rodgers can't this season.
