Merv's Cafe & Bar launched near LCFC stadium by former manager of Blues Bar and Grill

Leicester City fans now have a new bar to visit for a pre- or post-match pint. Merv's Cafe and Bar has just opened in Commercial Square, Freemens Common - a short walk from the King Power Stadium.

The bar has been launched by Mervin Ramsamy, who previously managed the Blues Bar and Grill, along with two business partners - his brother, Kelvin Ramsamy and friend Hardeep Rai. It has a similar look and feel to the Blues Bar and Grill, which closed in March this year, with an American-influenced decor and menu.

"We want to take the concept forward and give the customers what they want, and keep them coming back," Mervin told LeicestershireLive. He added that 95 per cent of the customers that have visited so far have followed him from the old bar - something he has been heartened to see.

The trio want to make everyone feel welcome, whether that's football fans having a pint before a home game, or diners wanting to enjoy the slow-cooked American food. According to Mervin, the food was very popular at Blues Bar and Grill, and saw the bar being rated number one on Trip Advisor for American food in Leicester (in fact, it still is!)

Therefore, those popular dishes will soon be available again - with pork ribs, chicken wings and burgers among the items set to be on the menu when the kitchen opens in September. For now, customers can relax with a drink on the indoor or outdoor seating.

Beers on draught include Heineken, Birra Moretti, Beavertown's Neck Oil and Bones, and Guinness. There's also a range of spirits such as gin, vodka and whiskey, along with wines.

The bar has pool tables and there's a big screen, which will be showing plenty of live sport, including football and rugby matches. Customers can also enjoy live music on match days, and according to Mervin, he is looking to run regular live music nights on Fridays and Saturdays in the near future.

Although Mervin says he was disappointed when Blues Bar and Grill closed - due to the landlord wanting the property back - he still has a good relationship with the Holiday Inn Express, and is planning to offer a food delivery service there soon.

I don’t recall the Blues Bar and Grill having any discernible look and feel. People went there because it was next to the ground (or they were staying at the hotel upstairs).

Is this Marv from the Wet and Sticky Bandits?

I don’t know, but given the bloke has named his new place after himself, and has presumably paid a PR agency to get a fluff piece into the Mercury for him, Merv is Merv’s biggest fan.
