The Wesley Fofana Situation

  1. 1. How should the club handle it?

    • Sell for what Chelsea are offering, and get rid ASAP and move on.

    • Hold out for our asking price (looks to be 85million) and risk not selling him.

    • Don't sell at all, it's too late in the window and Chelsea and the player are taking the piss.

... who has no interest in playing for us!

He’ll play. They always do. They might pout and cause a fuss but they always end up playing and maybe we’ll get what we’re asking for next summer when we’ll have more biddders.

Or, hopefully even more bidddders?

As a club we’ve made mistakes and can’t get rid of players we’re paying ‘too much’ that we want out. So why should we lose someone we’re paying ‘too little’ because they want out.

As much as we offered contracts we can’t get out of, he signed one he can’t get out of.

It’s about time clubs got a better deal out of how everything works and it should be easier to fine or not pay players who kick up a fuss like the rest of the employment works.

“Stuck” with a World Class talent for 5 years? Not the worst thing in the world…

That’s downed tools and can’t be relied on on to put in his best performance

if he has any ambition then i can't imagine him downing tools for long. he'll soon realise he'll need to put the effort in when he wants to get in the national side and get his big move in the future

I think it’s time to bring out the big stick. He signed his 5 year extension, can’t believe we are just going to let him sit in the stands , while we drift further down the ladder .

I wouldn't risk him still being here when the window closes. And I don't trust us to bring in anyone else either. Are we actually without transfer guy with the new one coming in on still gardening leave?

Yes, Herr Glover cannot arrive until after  the window closes due to his contractual situation at Southampton.

This is why if we do sell Fofana this window, which I think we will, we should bank most of the money ready for next Summer’s huge window, try to get a loan or two in, and just try and tough out this season

In the last few days I’ve nearly gone full circle. Whereas only a few days ago I would have sold him - assuming our value was met - I’m now becoming more open to keeping him for another year. His value won’t diminish and he could be the difference between being in a relegation scrap or not.

Also I think we may have gone beyond the point where we can get another player in? We’ve now got less than a week. I hope they’ve given the fax machine an MOT since the Silva debacle…

If we do sell Fofana and replace him with Akanji we might as well concede staying in the Premiership now

Especially if Madders is out injured again.
