This came out same day Enzo was appointed so he might have changed obviously but certainly to me it sounds like someone trying to find a way out

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/timothy-castagne-addresses-delicate-leicester-8528000.amp

“I'll see what happens in the future,” Castagne said at a press conference. “A decision will be made. It's delicate, of course. The objective is always a top club, but the risk is to wait too long and find yourself with nothing.

"I'm not thinking about that yet. For the moment, I let my agent do what he has to do, then a choice will have to be made, of course. He is having discussions. I told him not to tell me anything during the period with the national team in order to keep my concentration."

Thanks for sharing, font of knowledge as always!

doesn’t read like wanted out, more exploring options and maybe more his agent than him. I think he has the right attitude and seems like the kind of player that buckles down. If his wage packet isn’t hit too much and we start playing some good stuff and be successful, I can see him staying and contributing.

I love how the official video is about as good quality as someone making a bootleg copy of a film by using their phone in the cinema!

You’d think for 100 mill we could have put in a camera gantry for our main training pitch! 😂

They normally do for the academy games (though it's still uselessly low).  I assume this is a compromise of letting us watch but not revealing to much about our tactics and set up?

Or it’s just how we roll!

I’ve said before I actually really like Castagne and think he was one of our better players last season. He hasn’t pulled up any trees but he’s very much like Albrighton. Works hard, does his job relatively well and is a professional. I hope we keep him, he’s quite a dynamic player, would seemingly suit the way Maresca wants to play where the full backs push forward and get cover from the Midfield and CB behind them.

Hes the sort of player that brings a bit of stability as he won’t ever have team swarming around him and unsettling the group and he often puts in a half decent performance.

How have you interpreted "the objective is always a top club, but the risk is to wait too long and find yourself with nothing." as him not wanting out and down to his agent? If he tells his agent he doesn't want a move then he doesn't look. I read that as staying at Leicester in the Championship is the "nothing".

A few reasons.

Number 1: Look at the date of the article it was written before Maresca signed and he had no idea on his place or in the team or where we were going.

Number 2: have you seen or heard him say anytime else since?

Number 3: Look at his attitude during games so far this season. Looks committed to me and would Maresca be starting him and making him key to our system if he was on the periphery? Look at Ward. Not had a minute and we’ve recruited over him. The guy is not mucking about.

Overall, maybe I am being optimistic but the guy seemingly had no idea of his life or career a month ago. Maybe that’s the case, maybe it’s not. From what I’m seeing I have the impression that he’s not actively pushing to leave.

Hope that clarifies where I’m coming from.

Cheers!

I admire your optimism. I'm not knocking it in the sea of darkness on here. However -

1 - I think you'd probably be let down if you knew just how little that matters to footballers. They see top level and more importantly money above anything else.

2- No i haven't, but i've never heard Barnes say he wants to go either. I don't expect them to tell everyone with a megaphone by the clock tower.

3- Yeah he's ran about a bit against Northampton and at the training ground. The bar is pretty low admittedly for actually give a shit with our players, but forgive me if i don't think it means he's getting LCFC forever tattooed just yet.

Good convo!

1. Not sure I’m getting let down or giving too much thought to it. Just more felt he was in a different spot. We are also probably still paying him more than he’d get in Italy or Turkey. Maybe if Fulham come in we shall see…

2. Maybe he doesn’t want to go but he’s a hugely saleable asset and I think we are probably making a business decision on him as much as he’s making a decision. Still think Newcastle is odd for him and will be interesting to see how much game time he gets there. I actually don’t have hard feelings towards him but would also want to see how “injured” he’s really been in preseason. Actions speak louder than words…

3. Haha, don’t think anyone is getting an LCFC tattoo. We’re the only ones committed enough for that!

I’ve been wrong many times before and maybe wrong on this one but have an inkling

he’ll be with us come deadline close - unless we get a massive offer (which won’t happen). Not like I’m gonna get his name on a shirt (unless we want him to leave and then I will… my track record of Schlupp and Madders among others demonstrates that!)

Vardy, Praet, Albrighton, McAteer

Praet is another like Castagne that's played a decent amount of minutes in pre season for players supposedly about to leave.

...get him playing the Ndidi role against Northampton, where he goes ahead of the striker!!!

Sweeping generalisation, and it's not like he's on rubbish money with us.  Even accepting your philosophy that greed is every footballer's key motivation, he might feel that staying here a year earning decent money, he might get an even better deal if we go back up?

I think the point he's making is that castagne hasn't recapitulated that original comment, since enzo came in - if he was keen to leave, he'd probably be still talking about it now the TF window is open?  barnes hasn't needed to say anything because it's always been a given that he will be sold.
