Within a couple of years, these lads either became Man Utd hooligans or members of the Bay City Rollers.

Yep, you definitely don't see Deltics any more on the main line.

This was working class pride in action. People didn't have much but keeping the front step spotless was imperative

Don't want to be negative, but taking pride in your property is something that is definitely on the decline. Obviously not helped with rentals.

Most people in the time of the photo would be renting.

Fair, but I do feel it's a factor in a lot of areas. Particularly where I grew up, people don't take as much pride.

Absolutely, it's such a materialistic world to the extent that the general attitude is if it's not mine and that includes council and government facilities then it's not mine to look after.

That is probably correct imo. Thing is a lot of working class people lived in council houses/flats and took pride in their home even if they didn't own it. I know folk who live in council homes now and look after it as they should. Unfortunately there are others that don't.

"It gives someone a job."

Yeah, let's all go round creating jobs no one wants to do (except, possibly, immigrants).

Yes the idiots completely ignore the fact that councils have divert money from other areas to clean up the rubbish

I remember how birds would often peck through the lids to get at the cream. When I was a kid, we received silver, red and green tops, I think, but can't remember which was which.

(By "birds", I mean those feathered, flying mini-dinosaur things. No reference intended to the thread discussing physically enticing women).

Who remembers this game?

I used to spend hours playing this, two imaginary teams with a score sheet recording all the details.

Never actually played cricket more than a couple of times as for bowling I'd just give a way byes to the boundary,

We used to play cricket with a dice and a ruler on the school desks.
