No photo description available.

Black raincoat, lost half of a front tooth wearing one of these. It wasn't belted up and as I was running the buckle swung up and wacked my tooth.

Just dug this out me, my brother and a few friends trains spotting in Grantham.

Ah yes the belted, double breasted mac. No need to worry about anyone taking the micky. We all had one.

If we're talking coats right now, I had one of these in 1975. I don't remember the cost as it was gift from my late uncle. I treasured it, but it marked me out as a bit of a target for "greasers" at the time.

"Greasers" or "Grebos" From the early 70's.

Didn't like the "mods" or "skinheads" and there would be frequent meet ups for a scrap, particularly in places like Southend or Skeggy.

They used to be renowned for carrying motorbike chains to a fight.

The Original Forest Grebo Squad. They were around mid 1960's to the early 1970's. The guy in the Middle Trent End Zoonie. A Legend in the old days.

Leicester's very own Grebos.

Along with Gaye Bykers on Acid and Lesbian Dopeheads in Mopeds (the same band, I know).

Choke Control

I was never sure how it worked or what it was supposed to do. I think it was to restrict air entry into the engine when it was first started up from cold and as it got hotter the choke had to be gradually released. :dunno:

Not real Grebos as I knew them back in the day.

This lot aren't as scary.

Great band names though.

They were a lovely coat. Smart, well made and reasonably affordable IIRC.

Rust bucket cars. Fortunately they were built on chassis so were relatively safe from collapsing but there were plenty around with see through wings and sills. Newspaper and Isopon filler was what held mine together.

I once bought Ford Sierra (in Hinckley) which I thought was a bargain and a decent car until the cracks literally started to appear and when I reached under the wheel arches and into the wing panels I pulled out a load of filler and newspaper.

Did you ever sell a Sierra whilst living on Wykin Road?

My elder brother living London had a real rust bucket. There was no floor left where the drivers feet rested and he just had thick pieces of cardboard there. The accelerator linkage was broken so he had a bit of string going through the dashboard tied to the throttle and used to just pull on it to accelerate and let go to slow down. Bloody scary.

No. An Austin A45 van, Vauxhall Viva the gear stick came off in my hand as I was driving home from buying it. I had some awful cars. You’d be lucky to get more than 3 months MOT and Warranty.

That A45 had 3 months MOT so when I took  it back to the dealer he failed it for not having seatbelts. I asked how long had they been required and he said nearly a year. So I said you sold me an illegal unroadworthy car so you should pay for it. We had a big argument as he refused. I spent 4 hours in his office refusing to leave and threatening him I’d call the police. The mrs was so embarrassed she went home. He paid up eventually just to get rid of me. 😂👍
