May be an image of bicycle

If you know what this is… you’re officially old school!
Before USB chargers and LED bike lights, we had the good old dynamo. Clip it to your wheel, start pedalling, and like magic—your headlamp lit up the road (well, sort of). It made a little hum, added some drag, and made every ride feel like a workout… but it worked.

My Dad still has a couple of these in use.  I image if you'd included the actual bike I'd be saying that it's like his. Although, he's also got an e bike too these days.

I do sometimes wonder if you're just taking pictures of stuff at my parent house 😂

Choke Control

I was never sure how it worked or what it was supposed to do. I think it was to restrict air entry into the engine when it was first started up from cold and as it got hotter the choke had to be gradually released. :dunno:

Receptionists.

When I started doing delivery to firms, everyone had a receptionist and I got to know most of their names, didn't need to ask them when I needed a signature.

Nowadays I turn up to an empty room and if I need a signature often have to wait 2-3 mins until someone comes out. That's practically every business I visit.

May be an image of measuring stick

The giant paper cutter used in classrooms when I was a kid
I was pretty sure it would easily take off a stray finger if you weren't careful

May be a black-and-white image of 5 people

The Games we used to play: Den building..

When I was about 11/12 me and a few of the lads from the home I was in found this abandoned dilapidated pavilion some where beyond Shady Lane. So we agreed to meet there again, we were only allowed out in no more than pairs with a few tools to turn it into a 'Den / Hideaway'. Well we turned up and started repairing it with rubble from inside and around it when we heard this shouting form outside we looked out of the window and saw about 15/20 men and police and were carted off and accused of vandalising it. As I recall nothing came of it from the police but we got real ear bashing and a list of chores to do for the next few weeks.

You do see this though.

Lots of parks and woodland leave cut down branches around in areas set aside for just this activity.

Also in many ways, Minecraft and it's ilk have replaced this.

They're often organised by local groups

People buying a drink for the barman. Used to get that semi regularly when I worked behind a bar at university but I haven't heard anyone say it in years.

I would say 99% of pubs now dont allow the staff to drink alcohol whilst working. I used to work in a village pub 30 years or so ago and i was all the while being told to 'have one yourself' We werent allowed a pint glass but as long as you drank in a half pint the landlord wasnt bothered. One of the pubs near me dont even allow the staff to stay after their shift has finished and have a drink, dont get that at all as just means they go to a competitor should they wish

as i understand it the term "have one for yourself" means either you tally it up and charge for it now, and drink it another time when not on shift or, alternatively, charge for it now but you get it added to your wage?

many thanks

Saturday morning Flicks

Kids so addicted to screen time that they would get up early on a Saturday morning and queue, even in the rain.
