I agree 100%. Rogers seemed to coach the ability to try things out of him. You could tell he had something. To have not found the money was another recruitment masterstroke. Shame. I am glad he is playing so well and seems to have found a home.

This was a cock up from the start and now looks even bigger. I loved lookman. A good kid with a good attitude despite him being kicked around like a can but it finally looked like he found a home with us and was starting to show real potential. He was the kick up the arse that Barnes needed too on that wing. Did better as an impact sub than starting at the time. I was peed off when we couldn’t find the money to buy him so yeh him killing it in serie A is no suprise to me. All we did was get him ready for Atalanta and now they are reaping the rewards.

He’s been great for Atlanta. However he’s been playing as a centre forward. We’d have never have played him there.

It wasn't massive money really - in the context of what we've spent on players since. Faes, Okoli and Skipp all cost more!

 

Atalanta are pretty mad in that they seem to have virtually nobody flop. Convinced they could sign Ward and he'd look like Buffon (probably too far)

Shall we talk about our new 37? - probably our most exciting prospect for years. Told by the club he was part of the first time plans then the club buys Cordova-Reid and Ayew who play in his position on the wing alongside two new 19 year olds (one on loan) who are also now in front of him. BcD and Ayew are short term squad fillers due to age. Buonanotte being nicely developed for Brighton. Alves should be being developed - even from a purely financial perspective. He could be worth a lot if he delivers on his promise and potential. I believe the current trajectory is that he’ll find a loan, do well, and potentially leave because he’s learned he can’t trust this club to best serve his interests. He could be a real asset on the pitch and to the club’s bottom line.

I'm happy for him, but at the same time incredibly bitter that his talents were so blatantly wasted here. We got one true glimpse of the player he really is against Liverpool, the rest of his tenure has me wanting Rodgers arrested for crimes against football.

 

I met a Charlton fan on the train across Canada in 2021, who absolutely waxed lyrical about him and asked that we quote-unquote 'look after him - he's world class, just needs a chance'. I'd like to apologise to him. We didn't. I hope he can get Atalanta games out in Vancouver though.
