leicsmac Posted 7 August 2024 Posted 7 August 2024 After a certain amount of shuffling about (mostly from Biden because you know, he's old), the stage is now set. Harris/Walz vs Trump/Vance. The latter, at the present time, with a narrow lead in the betting markets, and polls make it pretty much a coin flip. Can't help but feel that this is one of the most consequential US elections in terms of the effect it will have on the future in... well, ever.

I’m wondering if the Dems may have positioned themselves a little to the left to win the swing votes.. we shall see.. Harris making some comments that could be taken as outright socialist and Walz appears to have opened himself up to Being misinterpreted as being a ‘ Chinese sympathizer’ having lived/ worked in China and commenting warmly about them in recent years… This is an election year so even the Furr color of your cat will be turned against you.. I guess with that considered, it will come down to just how sane a world we have. Edited 7 August 2024 by leicsmac

That they haven’t flung already…. i just don’t understand it all.
MPH Posted 7 August 2024 Posted 7 August 2024 I’ve said previously that I believe the American constitution teaches a very selfish society and I believe that people like being a big powerful nation and people like it being a rich nation.. ” we the people” what they really mean is “ me and my life”..

Whether it's enough to actually win in November and how it all plays out I have no idea, but I do think they're giving themselves the best possible shot at it.

I agree, but then out there I also saw many examples of selflessness and community. They need to tap into that more. For their own sake and for the sake of everyone else.

You’re right, there is some generosity within Americans..: but I still think it’s all ‘ on their terms’ rather than self sacrificing and for the good of the community. Edited 7 August 2024 by MPH

I agree, self interest is the guiding star. However, if that enlightened self interest can then be used as a tide to also raise all ships, then that's a solution to the problems that lie ahead as much as sole altruism would be. And the efficiacy of the solution, rather than the method, is what's important imo.

And when I have done my work for the day I’m constantly calling round to see who needs help and others do too and it just breeds such positivity and desire to be together and love and respect for each other.. it would be absolute utopia for me to pass that over into society, regardless of how much money was in my pocket.. but anyway, I’m digressing! 2

Torquay Gunner Posted 7 August 2024 Posted 7 August 2024 Vance today apparently called Putin ‘ a tinpot dictator’. Daddy Trump won’t be happy.
MPH Posted 7 August 2024 Posted 7 August 2024 To be fair, this is a bit of a boss move… ( aka a certain part of the male anatomy move..)

Jon the Hat Posted 8 August 2024 Posted 8 August 2024 It is hard to see Trump and Vance actually liking each other. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a major falling out tbh.
