Christmas Visit

..it's always a nice gesture for the squad to go along to the Childrens Ward at the Royal each Christmas....but having just watched the clip on the os, does anyone else think they could perhaps go round with a bit more of a smile on their faces?

Bloody grim as anything their faces and Stearman just stands there chewing bloody chewie!

You're supposed to be there to cheer people up lads! It's not much to ask you to do out of your busy schedule.

Maybe walking round the wards of the Children's doesn't give them a lot to smile about, having done it before in another job it is very upsetting. It brings home how lucky you are that you function fully and will be at home for Christmas.

I understand what you are saying, but sometimes the picture isn't what it seems.

These lads will have bought all the presents out of their own pockets through fine systems etc throughout the season and many do stuff away from the limelight.

I understand the point about it being upsetting around ill children, very much so. But if you go in there with just a sad face on it won't help at all :(

They're supposed to be there to cheer some children up, they could put a smile on their faces for a little while I'm sure.

This is not aimed at all the players at all, as players such as Dion were seen having a good old chin wag with people which is exactly what they should be doing.

It wasn't a dig aimed at you, I am sure Stearman laughed and joked as well and it's a shame he was caught on camera looking so miserable. One of the senior players should stick their arm around him and point out exactly what you are getting at as it is all part of their life now.

Imagine being one of those kids feeling awful on the wards because of illness or injury, things couldnt get any worse.............then Momo Sylla and Gaz Williams walk in lol

Was Lee Morris there?

...Bet he felt at home in the royal

I doubt they would have taken him there... just in case he might pick up a nasty bug by mistake

Well, that prospect made YOU laugh :P

The thing that annoyed me was Stearman chewing his chewing gum - surely he should have taken it out before he came into the hospital. It doesn't look very respectful to the people he's come to see. Or professional for that matter. :nono:

I've had to take my niece to the Junior Foxes Crimbo party before now, and the players are expected to join in there. It's the highlight for the kids (and their parents  ), but the vast majority of them always look like they wished they were somewhere else.

They are paid an obscene amount of money and expect adulation, but they have to realise it has to be earned. Good PR is for their own benefit.

PS. It would surprise all of you to know which player was the most taken with the kids. He even begged to have his pic taken with my niece1

Are you having a laugh? I know he's still only young but he's not back at school mate.

When was chewing gum un-professional? He's hardly gone to meet the queen.

Unreal.

I thought that also...Ferguson, how many years has he been in the game?, still hasn't learnt though has he? Still chewing :rolleyes:

Exactly! People have a go at you for being the forum moaner but Anish takes the biscuit. I totally agree that if these players are going to go and visit these unwell kids then they should atleast make the effort to cheer them up and I imagine they do. That footage doesn't do the players any justice really and the fact Stearman had the nerve to chew some gum is the funniest thing i've heard in a long time.

How Dare Yow!

If I was in hospital and I saw Stearman standing there all glum, and they blatently chewing gum I wouldn't think much of him.

I did not say chewing gum per se is unprofessional, but chewing gum when you are visiting sick kids in hospital is in my opinion. Surely he is trying to create a positive impression for himself and the club, and chewing gum doesn't do that. If any other professional went to meet a complete stranger (say a client or potential business partner) with a view to representing their company , they wouldn't go with a chewing gum in their mouth now would they? The same thing applies here for me.

As for my comments being laughable, you ought to re-read some of your posts at times. Go back to last year and see what you said about Levein when he first arrived. That's laughable. <_<

As I stated in a post earlier today about Levein. I was one of the ones who really rated this guy and when he came here I was as excited as alot of fans are about their candidates they keep banding about to replace Levein. I have learnt a valuable lesson in recent years with jumping the gun with new players and managers ans that's one of the reasons why getting rid of Levein won't guarantee anything.

Some of my posts infact quite alot of them are probably laughable, i'll openly admit that. I've never said i'm a model poster, but your moaning at your age is not normal.

Think I'm going to leave the Nature Boy Ric Flair and Anish to go at it and instead try and guess Lisa's surprise player.

I'm going to guess Marc De Vries. He seemed a really nice person when I met him. A genuine decent guy.

The player in question is longer at the club. As for "genuine" and "decent", those two words do not come anywhere near to describing him. My only regret (and my niece's for that matter) is that she didn't fart on his lap.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

You'd have a pop at CL and the players over anything wouldn't you? Who is to say that the gum Stearman is chewing wasn't given to him by one of the patients or their relatives?

I can't believe that people are opening having a go at Stearman from a piece of footage on the OS that doesn't show the whole day.

Great fans, great fans we have.
