Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 People bating Oasis on the other topic as the most 'overated' band of all time need their brains testing! People who criticse lyrics on Definately Maybe... the songs were written to perform to 20/30 people before they were discovered, thats why their raw, more often than not excellent. Great frontman, great singer songwritter, great band, superb live, superb songs and have been fairly consistent for a long time. So I'd like to know why people disagree with me...
Alexikokopops Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Because my opinion is different to yours.

Nothing else needs to be said after this quote. To put it simply, people have different opinions of music and if they don't like Oasis that is fine. Personally, I like Oasis, but if people don't like them that is okay too. Be Here Now is a fantastic album.
FoxInTheSnow Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I agree that 'people have different opinions' but it does kinda ruin a forum though surely. Oasis good live? Hmm Glastonbury 2004 would disagree with you.
Katy Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Stez has it spot on. They havent moved on musically for the past 12 years. They've done some good songs in the past but its the same old same old now.

It hasn't stopped me buying their records, I have them all, but they just haven't got that oomph anymore. On every album there are a couple of great records but as the albums increase in number so does the mediocrity. They are certainly not appealling to any new markets anymore, and I'd be surprised if they have more then a couple of albums left in them, unless their musical direction changes or as I have been saying for years, get a good producer, an innovative producer, try something a bit different, surprise us all!
Katy Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Why change a winning formala, some would say. Me? I can take them or leave them. Nah it's a tired formula - do some new stuff and they might gets some new fans.
The People's Hero Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I think they are probably happy with the current army of fans they have. Also, if you actually listen to all the albums, there is a fair amount of variation. Listen to.. Wonderwall Don't Look Back in Anger Stand By Me Stop Crying Your Heart Out Songbird The Importance of Being Idle. You think they all sound the same. Tired formula is like Lighthouse Family, Poppy rnb and Status Quo, who's songs really do all seem to sound alike.
1884 Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Nah it's a tired formula - do some new stuff and they might gets some new fans. They don't need new fans, they already have plenty who enjoy listening to there music. They don't need to reach out and try and grab a new section of fans.

The People's Hero Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Ive heard them thanks. Still stand by what ive said. Fair enough, wouldn't expect anyone to change their own opinion on music just because of what somebody else says. I just thought it was unfair to accuse them of adhering to a tired formula. How many times have they shaken up the band membership? Each album has an individual feel to it.. etc etc.

Each album has an individual feel to it.. etc etc. The band membership shake up wasnt always their doing though. I still think theres a lot of stuff they could have done but have decided to play it safe. I dont dislike Oasis but have become bored of them over the past few years.
Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 They don't need new fans, they already have plenty who enjoy listening to there music. They don't need to reach out and try and grab a new section of fans. Err! I think you'll find they do, Sales are getting lower and lower with every album and if they want to command the type of contracts they are used to then they need more fans! I don't know when their current deal runs out and I have no doubts they will get another, but it wont be millions up front, more like an album sales based contract with a smaller up front fee. Oasis Album Sales as of end of 2005 Definitely Maybe 7 Million UK's biggest selling debut album Whats the Story 18.5 Million UK's 3rd biggest ever selling album Be Here Now 8 Million UK's fastest selling album SOTSOG 3 Million Heathen Chemistry 3.5 Million Dont Believe the truth 2 Million
Babylon Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Dont Believe the truth 2 Million Still better than 95% of the other bands out there.
Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Still better than 95% of the other bands out there. But we aren't having a discussion on other bands are we The original poster asked why people hate Oasis and although I don't personally hate them I am getting bored of them. He asked for 1 valid reason and I think the common denominator in all the reasons given is that they have become a bit stale!
Cat Burger Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I've never bought anything by Oasis and I never will. I sang along to them in 1995 or whatever because I was 9 and didn't know better.

Babylon Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I sang along to them in 1995 or whatever because I was 9 and didn't know better. It's comments like that which make my blood boil. So are you saying you know better than anyone who likes Oasis? For gods sake peoples music tastes are different, just like they are with clothes, food or anything else. 99% of the stuff mrC mentions isn't to my taste. I don't go round slagging it off though or saying I know better for not listening to it.
