Matt Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 definately maybe is the best album, its the others that are shite great front man? ian brown did it before him songs? the newer ones where noel doesn't write them all are improving great band? great bands can adapt their styles, grow, and innovate. the beatles are a good example of this, that's one thing oasis didn't manage to copy off them Legend. Oasis are a good band I like them and listen to alot of there music, but they are just a very very good, Stone Roses tribute act really..... Stone Roses > Oasis(Tribute to Stone Roses) > Kasabian(Tribute to Oasis)..... At the moment, I am going back in time and loving my Britpop stuff, so i'm currently listening to alot of Definetly Maybe, (What's the story) Morning Glory, The Stone Roses, Blur, e.t.c...
Libertine Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 People bating Oasis on the other topic as the most 'overated' band of all time need their brains testing!People who criticse lyrics on Definately Maybe... the songs were written to perform to 20/30 people before they were discovered, thats why their raw, more often than not excellent. Great frontman, great singer songwritter, great band, superb live, superb songs and have been fairly consistent for a long time. So I'd like to know why people disagree with me... So because they performed infront of a small crowd, there's no need to write good lyrics? I agree with most of your points, I love Oasis, but can definately agree with others that they are vastly overrated. Two great albums and a few good songs scattered around their other albums doesn't make them the saviour of British music. Oh, and Morning Glory is best.
C-man Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I agree that 'people have different opinions' but it does kinda ruin a forum though surely.Oasis good live? Hmm Glastonbury 2004 would disagree with you. I dont understand this comment What would be the point of a forum on which people agree with everything? On forums you debate, mate. And on the subject of oasis, legends. IN MY OPINION they are anyway. I agree with babylon, anyone who dislikes them is not in the right to say that we're in the wrong for liking them, just like we'ere not in the right to say that anyone who dislikes them is in the wrong. I hate Green Day with a vengance but i dont crticise their fans for liking them. Cat burger i think you're a triffic poster, but in this thread you've chatted absolute wank.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 OK, I know this is all built on tastes, but 'Oasis the saviour of British Music - please DON'T make me laugh' !! They are :- 1. Hardly innovative 2. A poor alternative form of music to the saturated R&B and Hip Hop 3. Front man deserves a smack !! Also, for a start :- The Cure ARE PROBABLY THE MOST INNOVATIVE BAND since The Beatles to come out of Britain PLUS Other British artists who are phenomenal in their style of music are :- Aphex Twin Bent Thievery Corporation Nitin Sawhney - ALL DIFFERENT STYLES to name but a few !! STILL EVEN THINK that Simple Minds are CRITICISED TOO MUCH - especially when better than U2. They are not just a Stadium Band - they are a fantastic innovative group - something I'm afraid Messrs Gallagher and Gallagher will never be. Just here Simple Minds' Empires and Dance and Sons and Fascination album from the early 80s to vouch for that. ALSO David Sylvian is brilliant as well !!!
Libertine Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Fantastic, another post about The Cure! :w00t:
Jordan Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 I'm not feelin this thread at all. Is this a challenge for Oasis-haters to give reasons why they suck? Most people have a difficult time explaining why they like certain things/people in any deeper terms than "I like [whatever]." Taste is subjective. Do you want my opinion on Oasis? Fine: I think they suck. Why should that change your opinion of the band? Let's leave it at that and not get any more pissed off if someone else comes along and seconds my comment.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 January 2006 Posted 13 January 2006 Fantastic, another post about The Cure! :w00t: The Cure are FACKING AWESOME though, so lets let LLF off!! Hooray for Ukrainian New Year!!
Jay Posted 14 January 2006 Posted 14 January 2006 People who criticse lyrics on Definately Maybe... the songs were written to perform to 20/30 people before they were discovered, thats why their raw, more often than not excellent. I don't believe that at all!!! I was a regular reader of the NME at the time they were about to break and before they had ever released a single, they were being so hyped up it was untrue Alan Mcgee did a great job with the marketing after they signed to creation records, Supersonic was going to be a hit long before it was released because of this plus why would they write and album to play to 20 people when they already had a major record deal and were playing much hyped/sold out gigs all around the country? I admit they did work the circuit long before they made it big but they had plenty of help along the way to!!! in conclusion.... I can't stand them!!! however I do like this quote of Liams... " Jack White looks like Zorro on doughnuts"

Sigma Posted 14 January 2006 Posted 14 January 2006 Their bootlegs are absolutely fantastic. I recommend the Vancouver Jan 1995 bootleg - fantastic sound and they played Listen Up.

Katy Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 I bought 'Shakermaker' on cassingle ( ) on spec in about 94 or 95 I think - not the most original song in the world I have to say. Here we go again!
Babylon Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 I bought 'Shakermaker' on cassingle ( ) on spec in about 94 or 95 I think - not the most original song in the world I have to say. Here we go again! It was tongue in cheek though. On the Def May' DVD they say they were just trying to rip off as much as they could!
Libertine Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 Forgive my ignorance, but what was Shakermaker ripping off?
Katy Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 Forgive my ignorance, but what was Shakermaker ripping off? Id like to teach the world to sing by The New Seekers I believe.
Libertine Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 Id like to teach the world to sing by The New Seekers I believe. Okay, thanks for that.
Cobbo Posted 17 January 2006 Posted 17 January 2006 Forgive my ignorance, but what was Shakermaker ripping off? I'm not forgiving you, so there.
