He flapped at a few crosses and most of his kicks went either to no-one or straight out of play. Maybe now people will stop slating Douglas...

Birch'sLeftBoot Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Yeah, above all other priorities, IMO our biggest need-area in the close season (besides letting DeVries stay in Holland). Rab is a team guy and has a fine attitude, and Hendo is fine cover, but my goodness do they worry me. I still vouch for a Russell Hoult redux at the Walkers. What could he do worse? If I were Davies, I would be imperative about providing ample pounds for it...a massive need.

To be fair, it's one of the toughest thing in sport to come off the bench and be the last man on short notice, which is what he did tonight. I obviously didn't see the match, but it sounds like the Stearman OG was inevitable, and that no one could have stood between it. Hendo might have been a bit shell-shocked going in and trying to find his legs. If we're without Rab for a while, and he looks the same, then we'll see what shakes out. But he did the best he could at the drop of a hat, I reckon....

Spot on point douglas much better than henderson and douglas distribution was really good today
Birch'sLeftBoot Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 I wouldn't be opposed to keeping one or the other, but I do think we need a real established first teamer to provide cover, someone that is a little more of a general at the position than Hendo. A bit green, he seems to me....

Louise Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 Looked a bit overweight to me - I know he's had injury problems but it is a bit worrying that he looks heavier than Douglas while being shorter. I suppose every player has bad games just as every player has good ones, the worry for me is that he was put under relatively little pressure (a couple of crosses, a few backpasses) and yet made quite a few mistakes (my heart was in my mouth when he missed that ball..).

Cardiff away in the cup I have yet to see a better individual performance. He looke good coming off his goal line for crossed, catching and punching which Rab never does.

Shame really - it would be really nice to know we have competent cover in Rab's absence. However, it's so far been 45 minutes in recent times - he's only played with the first team a couple of times this year - and in the league cup, you probably wouldn't call it the 'first team' (with the like of Hamill playing ). Perhaps he isn't fully match fit - and wasn't his injury to the ankle? (which could go some way to explain wayward kicks). Should he now be called upon to stand in for Rab for a few games, I'm sure he'll prove a sufficient replacement - playing behind our settled back four should help his cause.

Don't forsee it happening unless Kelly/Stowell really believe Henderson is that woeful - and Stowell should know, he's the goalkeeping coach In all fairness, Henderson has a lot more first team experience (granted in a lower league) than Logan. You've gotta ask yourself, is now the time to use an inexperienced goalkeeper?

It was probably the reason for their first goal, as it was on his right hand side, like the shot that hi the bar. In fact we were all saying if the substitution was a surprise to anyone in the Kop then they shouldn't be allowed to come to the footy as they must keep their eyes closed for the whole match!!!

Henderson will have heard the jibes that Rab gets and would have been nervous, knowing exactly how unforgiving the crowd is at times. Having seen him play confidently in the cup, I don't believe he has turned that bad that quickly. Rab's woeful punch at Brighton = Goal = Abuse from sections of the crowd. Hume's one on one miss from 8 yards = Missed chance to go ahead = Support from the crowd. There's an argument to say that both are as costly as each other but not in the eyes of some. Not saying I'm right but I honestly don't see how abuse can help.
