Head Honcho Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 So what are your views on this? After spending some time in Dublin last year I think this is great news, over there they've just got on with it, if you want a fag you just go outside, there was a bit of bitcing to start with but now it's part and parcel. It's also been responsible for hundreds of romances, you know what it's like your stuck out there with a decent bird and you get talking, but you probably wouldn't have had the balls to speak to her inside the pub!

It's also been responsible for hundreds of romances, you know what it's like your stuck out there with a decent bird and you get talking, but you probably wouldn't have had the balls to speak to her inside the pub! Doesn't really affect me as I don't smoke, or drink with anyone who does. Smoking in pubs didn't bother me particularly, so I'm fairly indifferent to the news. It's just progress, so like you say, we just get on with it now. As someone who occasionallly eats in pubs, I'm delighted I won't be forced to go outside to eat a packet of crisps or a steak'n'kidney pie now. The earlier botched legsilation with smokers in and food out was just ridiculous. I guess some people will feel its all very illiberal, but anyone who works in bars and clubs and now has lung cancer from passive smoking, just for earning a living, will probably tell you otherwise.
Tomassi Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Fantastic news one of my mates who smoke just returned from the army and just kept smoking in front of us all at the pub, not a coincidence we all fell ill soon after! My clothes will never smell bad again!! People who do bad (e.g. smoke) should face the consequence (e.g. stand out in the rain) and not let other people suffer
Milky Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 great news. the less smoke i have to inhale from those cancer sticks the better.
Cat Burger Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 I smoke when people offer them when I'm drunk even though when I was younger I was terribly asthmatic. Keep them away from me and I won't smoke!! Yes this is the right thing to do!! Social exclusion.
Teeno Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 Absoloutly ridiculous. What's the big problem? Takes the piss a bit, if I'm on a night out and fancy a fag, it means I have to go outside for one. It's ridiculous. I just wont happen. Theres gonna be times when I'm dying for a fag and it will mean going outside in the freezing colf, and pouring rain, how worngs that just cause people don't like the smell. It annoys me aswell when people make out that it's so bad when they're in the same room as someone smoking, you're not gonna die but sitting next to someone who's smokes. Yes passive smoking does kill but thats when you live with a smoker and your breathing it in 24/7. A partial ban yes that's fine then people have the choice, but a whole ban is just unfair, it's wrong. I don't smoke loads, but I do smoke daily. I just couldn't imagine sitting ina pub with not being able to smoke it's just not fair, atleast give people the choice. What's wrong wth splitting pubs into smoking and non smoking areas?

You've contradicted yourself a bit there matey!! Passive smoking does affect non-smokers, even on a casual basis. It aggrevates my asthma; do you not find my coughing annoying after I've been in the pub for a bit, because I bloody well do! In recent years, I've been getting hayfever symptoms just from sitting in the pub! Why should I have no social life so that people can enjoy a ciggy with their pint? And what about those people who work behind the bar? There is an ever-growing number of bar staff who have developed heart disease or smoking-related cancers despite never having smoked in their lives. Shouldn't their health, and ultimately their lives, be protected?

Shouldn't their health, and ultimately their lives, be protected? Exactly. In recent years, I've been getting hayfever symptoms just from sitting in the pub! That killed me this year, I had one drink and ended up just going home a few times because of that! I'm very anti smoking so i'm glad they have done it. Shame it's next summer and not this!!
Guest Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 That killed me this year, I had one drink and ended up just going home a few times because of that! How annoying! You have my full sympathy.
Shum Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 I think it's fantastic. There is no worse feeling than coming home from a night out smelling like an ash tray, I really can't wait until it's banned in all public places! Peoples who smoke not only effect themselves but also other people, wheich is why this needs to be done. Some of the guys at work smoke when they are driving out to lunch or something, I can't stand it, makes me cough and stuff. SMOKING OUT!
Milky Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 smokers keep going on about civil liberties, that they should be able to do what they want to do. there are 2 kinds of people. smokers and non smokers. at the moment, smokers can do exactly what they want to do. non smokers aren't allowed to do what they want to do as they are forced to inhale second hand smoke. what about the liberties of non smokers? there should therefore be a comprimise, and this ban enables smokers to still be able to smoke, allbeit outside, but diddums, and non smokers are able to not smoke.
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 ( Manwell smiles smugley ) I couldn't care less
The People's Hero Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 They'll be banning drinking in pubs next.
john_lcfc Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 they should let each premises decide and then people would have a choice
The People's Hero Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 In fact, pubs should be banned. They encourage drinking, smoking and generally wasting one's life. Right, so who'd like a pint?
Babylon Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 they should let each premises decide and then people would have a choice Well some of my mates smoke and some don't. Are we supposed to split the group in two? I'd probably go with them as the majority do smoke, i'd then be suffering as I don't want to be sat on my own in the non smoking pub!!

I'd probably go with them as the majority do smoke, i'd then be suffering as I don't want to be sat on my own in the non smoking pub!! you get together and say can you lot survive without a fag for 3 hours or shall we go somewhere that allows smoking then ur other mates may have to compromise a bit.. its not a matter your gonna fall out about is it
Babylon Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 its not a matter your gonna fall out about is it It is!!!! They can feck off outside if they want to smoke. Dirst bar******.
Tomassi Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 FOR ALL SINGLE SMOKERS OUT THERE.... Don't you realise... if you are outside smoking a fag, and some busty blonde comes outside to smoke hers... ...The chance of romance is BETTER (despite it being dirty the smoke i mean) as you wont have so many people there.. and it could be just the two of you, you can make it if you tryyyyy whooaa.. yer anyway.. BAN SMOKING
Head Honcho Posted 15 February 2006 Author Posted 15 February 2006 they should let each premises decide and then people would have a choice The law is being implemented not to legislate against smokers. It's health and safety at work legislation to protect bar workers! .........pissing smokers off is just a bonus

Cat Burger Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 If thats the case they shud ban booze instead then, as im sure more bar workers have been glassed or injured through booze than have died from passive smoking. Could be a j20 bottle. LET'S BAN ALL FLUIDS! Why would a bar worker be glassed?
Random Burglar Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 When i worked in a local pub...three bells in Oadby...I was told that if a glass is thrown at you try and catch it and throw it back? That boss was rather strange though
Leicfox Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 Could be a j20 bottle. LET'S BAN ALL FLUIDS! Why would a bar worker be glassed? Happens all the time here m8, Rowdy twats who cant handle there drink, Booze is more a danger to people than passive smoking is.
