Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 Apparently we've got this lad on trial. He's Australian and has just broken in to the national squad. An attacking midfielder who scores plenty of goals. Profile below. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/public...2&categoryID=28

perthfox Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 he has had a great season here playing for perth glory, scored quite a few good goals at this level,i think he is worth having a look at.
Monk Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 Nice little nugget that... but then its an australian review, so for all we know he could be pants.
Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2006 Author Posted 28 February 2006 Nice little nugget that... but then its an australian review, so for all we know he could be pants. Tanned us 3-1 though a few seasons ago and he's just been called up to represent them at senior level.
Anish Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 Just what we need, hope he proves himself cos we could do with an attacking midfielder who'll score a few.

Gené and Tonic Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 Lets hope he signs for us if he does well. Unlike a different Aussie we took on trial Sounds good though
Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2006 Author Posted 28 February 2006 Lets hope he signs for us if he does well. Unlike a different Aussie we took on trial Sounds good though We wouldn't be ablt to sign him until after the season finishes. He's also just signed a new 2 year deal with Perth Glory but has a clause in his contract allowing him to undertake a one week trial each season. They would require a fee for him if we wanted him though.
Gené and Tonic Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 I can't imagine Aussie clubs would make us pay over the odds for him. 150k max I'd presume?
The Don Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 I can't imagine Aussie clubs would make us pay over the odds for him. 150k max I'd presume? Would he need a work permit??? Not sure wi aussies but as we got a few already it appears not - but hasn't Joel Griffiths at leeds have a lot of problems?
Gené and Tonic Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 He was an unused sub for them at the weekend so it appears not

Not sure wi aussies but as we got a few already it appears not - but hasn't Joel Griffiths at leeds have a lot of problems? Well, as he was transfered before the January deadline it appears so - also, he is a regular in the Australia squad, where this gut isn't - do others like wesolowski have dual nationality??
Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2006 Author Posted 28 February 2006 We needed at work permit for Kalac and it took ages to sort it out. The reason Leeds have had problems with Griffiths is because the Swiss club he was previously at have been pissing Leeds about by not releasing his documents so they could get International Clearance for him. We had trouble with Real Betis over Gudjonsson, it took nearly two weeks to sort that out (if you remember Joey couldn't play for the first few games for us because of this). Ward probably would need a work permit, but because he's now in the Australia squad i'm sure he'd get one. Hearts signed Kisnorbo and Bradford signed Henderson (so did we) without them playing for the national side so the work permits can't be that hard to get if needed.
Jon the Hat Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 he has had a great season here playing for perth glory, scored quite a few good goals at this level,i think he is worth having a look at. Have you been down to watch him play at all?

aussie-fox Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 could be a good signing, one player city should look at is Melbourne Victory's Adrian Leijer, a defender who's only 18 and has loads of potential. Nick Ward couldnt get a game at perth at the start of the season when steve mcmahon was in charge then broke in the side and become one of the best players in the League

Are they?
aussie-fox Posted 28 February 2006 Posted 28 February 2006 Only want them if they're as good as Weso. Are they? not at the moment, but a year in the 2nds and they could be both real bargins

I'm not sure if Weso has been in Britain long enough to gain Citezinship or not and in reply to Sparky it's something like 75% of international games you must've played during your contract period or something like that.
perthfox Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Have you been down to watch him play at all? he couldnt get in the side when mcmahon was the manager, probably not one of his favourites, since he left he has been a regular,i have seen him play both live and on tv looks good, mind you this league here is a different level, but as i said worth a look

Personally I can't see what's the fuss about Leijer, he's slow, and although he's fairly decent at heading and tackling, he doesn't deserve the hype he's received. Nick Ward though, is a pretty decent player, throughout the season its been clear to see he's taken his game to another level in terms of consistancy and his involvment in games has increased a fair bit once he became used to playing at a higher level. I tend to think he'll need another year before he's at a good enough level to play overseas though.

How come then Ward got a callup for Australia and our Weso who was playing well then for us did not get a callup as was before his injury? He would be the far better choice. Good for us then, might possibly see him in an England shirt from now on with Stears.

Football Autralia will no doubt want to bring on as many players from the A league as possible, bringing them into the National set up at the different levels. Players who arre already in England are probably deemed to be playing at a higher level and less in need of the Exposure. Also if they are playing in Oz, then it's a long way to go.
