lookwhaticando Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 Joey Gudjonsson will quit Leicester in the summer but has pleaded with the Foxes to give Rob Kelly the manager's job next season. (Daily Star) Source: BBC Gossip Column Thanks for telling us the obvious bit there, Daily Star. But what's this about Joey wanting Kelly to remain as manager? He's not the first player to have said that in recent times, so it sounds like a great PR job or the players really do like Kelly. Discuss.

Bert Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 Well it says it all that the players asked for Rob Kelly to be given the job 'til the end of the season

Thracian Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 I'd keep him too. And I'd tell him to start preparing for next season now. But I would also redefine his brief. Kelly told the Professional Managers Association in an interview that if he kept Leicester up that would represent "job done" as far as what was asked of him. I would now ask him to carry on, with the same policy of signing/developing "young, hungry" players but with the proviso that he focused on developing an attractive, attacking side and seeking to win all of our matches, including the away games. We have to increase our gates and we have to score goals and win matches to gain promotion. It is how football should be played anyway and I believe that Kelly has the brains to accomplish it given the chance.
ithuriel Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 thats if the board dont have it in for him due to the recent problems at the club

ThurmastonFox Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 I still have my doubts as to if Kelly wants the job full time. I can see it come the summer, that Kelly will move aside for Graydon. Call it a hunch
Anish Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 I still have my doubts as to if Kelly wants the job full time. I can see it come the summer, that Kelly will move aside for Graydon. Call it a hunch I doubt the board would allow that to happen if Kelly continued the excellent results.

Call it a hunch No disrespect to Ray Graydon but if city appointed a manager recently sacked by Bristol Rovers and Walsall, then our board should be hounded from office into obscurity.
newms Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 If he didnt want the job do you think he would have accepted it in the first place till the end of the season. I know originally he didnt sound to keen over the job but I think he wanted to play down his chances and let the players do the talking on the pitch. Something that worked and still is.

I know originally he didnt sound to keen over the job but I think he wanted to play down his chances and let the players do the talking on the pitch. Something that worked and still is. I believe he didn't want to put himself in the frame for the job full-time, perhaps because he thought he had too little experience on the management side. But, he's an honest guy and he'll give it his all no matter what he's told to do - coach or manage. And that he has done, to great effect so far. I believe that should he continue to drive the team forwards as he has done, he'll get more comfortable with his role and may consider it for the longer term. I think that he will be offered the job beyond the end of the season if we continue to bring home the points - and there's a good chance Rob will accept. I for one hope he does get the chance - and if recent player interviews are anything to go by, so do the players. Can't really blame them either - I'm sure the team appreciates some consistency in squad selection. More of a javelin man myself, sorry very poor. Nice one
