davieG Posted 5 May 2006 Posted 5 May 2006 Tell me about it, I get them nesting in my house every year I have to buy all sorts of stuff to get shot of them. Last year they decided to build a nest in the attic up near the chimney, I had to pay the local council £40 to kill them off. I've found 3 inside the kitchen today and I haven't opened a door or window - something tells me they have already starting building for this year.

Muz Posted 5 May 2006 Posted 5 May 2006 Annoying little feckers, Killed one that invaded my bedroom last night, precision shot with the rolled up newspaper, i'm preparing to do more battles with the buggers this summer. davieG Posted 5 May 2006 Posted 5 May 2006 We have this problem with wasps and flies too they just appear literally out of nowhere! Last year they built a nest in the roof space (bungalow) on top of the plastered ceiling. The nest rotted the plasterboard, one night when my lad was up from London, stopping the night he woke up with about 100 wasps crawling all over his bed, frightened we all s**t ourselves . Of course it was left to me to get rid of them.

Newcastle_Fox Posted 7 May 2006 Posted 7 May 2006 We had a nest of Wasps in our garden last year, jet wash does the trick! A blow torch to set the nest on fire does it better!
Ric Flair Posted 8 May 2006 Posted 8 May 2006 Has anyone ever been stung by a hornet? Those monsters you see in Spain and Greece that have 2 seperate bodies?? Absolutely massive and the sting is enough to make you projectile vomit, well I did anyway. That might be because I had been drinking heavily aswell.
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 8 May 2006 Posted 8 May 2006 A blow torch to set the nest on fire does it better! I think the best way is prevention through fear. Trap a wasp under a glass in effected area as a message to all others who want to try their luck - it works!
Dr The Singh Posted 8 May 2006 Posted 8 May 2006 We had a nest of Wasps in our garden last year, jet wash does the trick! Kill the queen wasp, then watch all the others just fly around with no purpose and will never attack, then kill the mofo's!!! Jet wash isn't a bad idea!!

Manwell Pablo Posted 12 July 2006 Author Posted 12 July 2006 Fecking brilliant I now Have a nest in my back garden!!!! They are everywhere! Its not even like I can petrol it as its under the paving slabs . Advice? Apart from pest control.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 ...the native Japanese honeybee, Apis cerana japonica, has an interesting defense against the predatory hornet! The Japanese honeybees can detect the hornet's secretion, and attack incoming hornets en masse. With approximately 500 honeybees surrounding the hornet in a tight ball, the temperature within the cluster rises to 47º C (117º F), which is above the upper lethal limit range of 44-46 degrees for the hornet. This temperature is too high for the hornet, which quickly expires, but does not harm the honeybees. This temperature does not aversely affect the honeybees because their upper lethal limit is slightly higher, 48-50 degrees. There's your answer. Have a chili cook-off, invite the whole neighbourhood round, and all drop your guts at the same time to superheat the backyard!

Advice? Apart from pest control. Kill the queen wasp!!! I had a nest in the beck garden, amazingly under the flower patch, first I burn't the mo-fo nest, this didn't quite do it, so I bleached to mo-fo's, at this point the wasps are in a panic and very easy to swat. Then I got the power washer and drowned whatever was in the nest....then I got a spade, opened up the nest and crushed them.......I must admit I found the whole experience quite enjoyable. Once the queen is dead the wasps will begin to commit suicide and by the next day, there were no wasps!!!
