Ric Flair Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 According to The Sun, Craig Levein has told Bassett his services aren't required anymore! This is fantastic news not only because he's been partly responsible for our demise, but also because his wages could be used on bringing a player in short term! You can stick your Harry Bassett up your arse. DAVE BASSETT is leaving Leicester City as new boss Craig Levein brings in his own management team.Bassett has been Director of Football for the past couple of years and was keen to come back as manager if he was offered the job. But with Levein getting the nod Bassett was in an awkward position and after the pair held talks yesterday the veteran boss is on his way out. Bassett will be given a pay-off but his days in charge are now over, with Levein determined to run Leicester the way he wants. The Leicester board are also happy for Levein to be a hands-on manager who takes the kind of decisions that highly-paid Bassett was employed for. Bassett had been manager at Leicester before Micky Adams was brought in and he was then moved upstairs. The former Wimbledon and Sheffield United chief was in that role for a couple of seasons but came out of 'retirement' when Adams left and made a bid to get back in the dug-out. Levein is also bringing in coaches Peter Houston and Kenny Black from his old club Hearts, which will mean further sackings at the Walkers Stadium.

Steven Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Bassett has been something of a Curate's Egg during his time at City.
gjp Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Thank god hes gone.Craig does not need any input from that motor mouth .Out with the old i say.Heres to a brighter future.

Harold Shipman was possibly once a good doctor but that doesn't mean that should allow him to snuff out a hundred old biddies does it?! Bassett is a dinosaur and has been nothing other than a menace to this club, turn the lights out when you've finished Dave your boring me.

It's the people like Wise that i really hate with a passion.
andy_croydz Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 personally i like basset, wouldent want to see him go yet.
Onion Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 I don't think Basset does anything radical for the club, hes just a name. Not glad to see him go, but I don't care for him to be honest. I'd like Levein to have a fresh start so If he wants to give him the 'hhhooooooooffff' then fair play to the man. Onion

SamJ 32534[/snapback] He's on a 6 month rolling contract, so it would depend on when the next 6 months finished. MA's took over May? 2002 so the 6 months would be May and November. On that basis his contract could be terminated sometime during November. Does that make sense?
Scow Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Sam J is right, we'll have to pay the majority of his remaining contract. The only way Levein will have any money to spend is if he gets rid of wasters like Blake and Dabizas. As for Bassett leaving, I can't say I'm sad. It's time for this club to have a complete clear out, and getting rid of Bassett ensures that. Levein will want to have complete control I imagine, which shows he means business.

>>>Bevan<<< Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Basset goin is in the intrests of both parties, Basset was hardly appreciate by many of the fans and was supposed to provide the link between the board and the managment team but there didnt appear to be one.
Mark Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Fantastic! Adams, Bassett, Cork out, at last. A complete new start \ / Now what about the players Levein?
davieG Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Bassetts contribution as Director of Football to LCF and the recruitment of CL. Tim Davis to HARRY: We're thinking of interviewing CL as the New Manager of LCFC, as Director of Football, with your broad knowledge of the football world what do you think? HARRY to Tim Davis: Never heard of him, who the **** is he, whatever, he's not as good as me Tim, you say he's only 40, I've got 20 years more experience than him, would he be interested in playing?
Anish Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 Great news that Bassett's been offloaded. His record with us speaks for itself, simply atrocious. Bevan - update your sig - Levein is the Leicester boss, not Hearts!
Scarby Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 I feel sorry for the guy. He was here and helped us through a difficult time. He has done nothing wrong!!!!! The poor man hasnt done anything intentionally to harm or make the club fail in any way!
Jordan Posted 2 November 2004 Posted 2 November 2004 I can't think of one positive contribution that Dave Bassett has made to the club since joining besides stepping down as manager towards the end of the 2001/2 season. Levein is right, Bassett's services aren't needed.

Look where Hignett is, Darlington league 2. We bought him for the Premiership! :w00t: I doubt Gemmill will be able to find another Championship team when we release him. He got too involved in the transfer dealings, now he's gone its all down to Levein which can only be good, well compared to what it was before
