He did something similar in a pre-WC friendly against Switzerland, when he stepped on Margairaz's leg on purpose... Stupid little twat. Mastroeni's tackle was hefty, as well. And the referees are to be strict about those kind of vicious attacks. I can see Italy winning this one.

MC Prussian Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 Italy was shocked after the own goal that led to the 1-1 and never really recovered, even with a one-man advantage for most part of the second half. They won't win the cup with such a lacklustre performance.

BartonFox Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 Delighted to see the USA play near their true level and but for the worst refereeing performance of the WC they'd have won easily. How the first sending off warranted a red card is mind boggling and Pope never touched the cheating Italian gimp when he received his second yellow. Also had it been Paraguay who had their national game riddled in scandal a la the Azzurri then they'd have been booted out of the tournament. Interesting to note that the referee today was sanctioned by FIFA in 2002 for poor performance and other undisclosed discrepencies and here he was in charge of a pivotal game involving the Italians. As you could see Bruce Arena mouth during the game "play fair".

Jay Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 can't stand the Italians I hate to sound xenophobic but as footballers they are just born cheats and cowards and with all this match fixing going on including international referees, the national manager, the national goalkeeper and influential members of the Italian FA I don't trust them at all!! who says they didn't have a word with the ref at half time to make sure they didn't lose, deny the US a goal, send another US player off!! ignore the fact that plenty of Italians made many more rash tackles that went unpunished and now I just can't believe anything they do!! The US got robbed imo oh and one thing I really hate and the Italains seemed to master is the waving of imaginary yellow cards after a tackle, I hate this and FIFA should change the rules that any player doing this gets booked themselves!!

Jay Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 think it was cannavaro who laid on the floor in the penalty area, was about to get up but saw the Americans were still attacking so he stayed down, you could see he had a smile on his face when he got up after the Americans had kicked the ball out!! gamesmanship at it's very worst... or in my book it's called cheating!!
Stevosevic Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 Czech Republic and Ghana to go through, thats what i predicted before the tournament and looks like i could be right. I dont think Italy have enough quality to be a contender this year.
