Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 The overwhelming reaction from everyone was that I'd never see my bike again when it got nicked ... and that the police wouldn't care about it or catch anyone. So far, I have had four phone calls, a door to door q&a across two streets by three officers and two visits. The message on my phone on Sunday told me the bike had been recovered and this mornings told me that the scum was nicked and going down for a string of offenses [the tool left prints on the bike!]. I can not speak more highly of the great officers of the West Midlands force [Wiley Birch Crime Fighting div] - bloody marvels the lot of them. Also, it seems as though they are all bike nuts... I've got my GPZ back Brmm brmm

Steven Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Restores faith a little when you hear stories like this. True. Glad you got the bike back.
Phube Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 These are the kind of stories people like to hear!! (Until the judge gives the thieving Chav 2 weeks paid vaction in the Algarve to 'see' the error of his ways!!!)
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 Restores faith a little when you hear stories like this. Pleased for you mate and hope the tw at gets a bit of tough justice True. Glad you got the bike back. Thanks guys - 'over the moon', me! Yea, I have been really REALLY impressed with the police. Seriously impressed. They have been outstanding really, I couldn't have asked for more. But, throughout it all, I still felt strangely guilty everytime I spoke to them. At some point I am going to have to confess to stealing Roger Davenport's five Sergio Panini stickers 27 years ago...

I've got my GPZ back Brmm brmm I'm not doubting your story for one minute but when my friend had his car nicked, the police recovered it and said that they don't bother finger printing for petty crime anymore, that they didn't know how long it had been dumped there and could have been contaminated by all sorts of prints. Which i thought was shocking.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 Some days just get better and better... Despite having a financial history that makes Enron look fiscally prudent ... me and Bird have just been given the OK to buy an 50/50 property in a nice part of Brum not populated by thieves. They say things come in three's ~ so here's to a massive win tonight Feel the love people, feel the love!
crazy horse Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 nice to hear that don't know whether you believe in synchronicity but i backed a horse in th 5-30 ascot called "dazed and amazed" and it now seems apt to your situation perhaps you have a go
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 Well done Disco Bob!! I love a happy ending! ...and I love the whole Disco Bob thing... I want to change my nick now!
Matt Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Fair play and well done to the Police this time, glad to hear of it, but this is 1 occasion out of how many failures? I don't expect police to solve every crime and don't expect police to catch every criminal, however when my next door neighbours house get broken into and the contents of the whole shed gets nicked the police then say "Sorry we can't come out to look/help you" its beyond a joke. I'm sure its not petty to you (Which it shouldn't be its YOUR property), but something like a bike is probably considered petty crime to the police and thats all they seem to be bothered about, just easy simple crimes! Something big like the contents garage/shed is big but at the same time (possibly) easier to solve/find the items missing... My next door neighbours just compleated her course in law, and she's going to join the police force, i'm not being nasty hear just stating facts - she is/seems VERY lazy, if the rest/most of the police are anything like this I can understand why polcing is sooooo bad!
Rincewind Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 If a car was left abandonned it is understanderble that it may contain several prints. Anybody walking by could put their hand on it out of curiosity because it was an unrecognised car in the street where they live. But does anybody report these? Not very often. Is any suspicious activity reported? Not very often. I admit I fail in this area too. The police TBH can only act on information received. The more information they have a lot easier their job is. If a record is kept of serial numbers or an item is security tabbed it narrows the field down as to the possibility of the whereabouts of the goods. A lot of the average policemans time is spent taking down and writing statements at the police station. Quite a bit is spent dealing with drunks on Friday and Sat nights. In the football season they have to be present in numbers to ensure the majority of fans can travel to and from games without interference from the minority who cause trouble. Then theres dear old granny who calls the police because her pussy is stuck up the tree. The pussy is recovered and handed back to dear old granny by a smiling PC who deep down would rather be handcuffing a dangerous villian then throwing them into the back of a police van. A policeman's lot is not a happy lot as the old song goes. When a felon's not engaged in his employment Or maturing his felonious little plan His capacity for innocent enjoyment Is just as great as any honest man Our feelings we with difficulty smother When constabulary duties to be done Taking one consideration with another A policeman's lot is not a happy one When constabulary duties to be done, to be done A policeman's lot is not a happy one When the enterprising burglar's not a-burgling When the cutthroat isn't occupied in crime He loves to hear the little brook a-gurgling And listen to the merry village chime When the coster's finished jumping on his mother He loves to lie a-basking in the sun Taking one consideration with another A policeman's lot is not a happy one When constabulary duties to be done, to be done A policeman's lot is not a happy one When the drunkard shows no sign of where the drink went He nobly bids all alchohol farewell When the juvenile delinquent to the clink went He hung his mother's picture in his cell When the cardshark's finished wiping out his brother He buys a rattle for his little son Taking one consideration with another A policeman's lot is not a happy one When constabulary duties to be done, to be done A policeman's lot is not a happy one
The People's Hero Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Well done Disco Bob!! I love a happy ending! When asked about getting his bike back, he responded (speaking about himself in the third person - in his customary fashion) 'Disco Bob's Elated'

It's actually because there are so many scu mmy criminals and even when they do get caught, they don't get locked up - and if they do it's never for long enough.

macbeth Posted 21 June 2006 Posted 21 June 2006 When asked about getting his bike back, he responded (speaking about himself in the third person - in his customary fashion) 'Disco Bob's Elated' macbeth thought that was strange too; he's been told its an early indication of megalomania all the best ; glad it all got sorted; did the cops allow you in to" interrogate" ( know what i mean) the scoundrels; that would be enjoyable

Daggers Posted 21 June 2006 Author Posted 21 June 2006 THey phoned me again this morning. They caught up with him in the early hours while he was doing a runner from another job, he coughed to the theft and was due to be in court this morning. I am amazed at the high level of communication from them ~ I'm begining to suspect that PC XXXXXXX has an ickle crush on me
