Daggers Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I've cracked my head on the Wicksteed Park train tunnel while collecting tickets from arsey funseekers I've had my fingers frozen while banging metal poles into the ground that then became Kettering pool I've died in the head while stocktaking badges and buttons I've picked up £86 for working 96 hours for a shite courier firm in Wellingborough I've almost turned suicidal while picking and packing for Millets at the Northampton warehouse I wanted to return to Weetabix and go postal thanks to the most evil area manager that ever existed but the winner... If it wasn't bad enough being told off on an hourly basis for calling the chips 'chips', the management at McDonalds thought they could ask me to go pick up a deposit someone had left on the floor of the toilet. My amazing McCareer lasted a full two shifts, I walked out with a bag full of Big Macs and never returned.

Dr The Singh Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I worked for a Jeans wholesaler- Supreme Jeans, when is was sixteen. Job entailed stacking Jeans and sweeping the floor etc, I was told it would be £1 an hour, which at the time I thought was good but the guy ripped us off and only paid us a quid for the day, what a rip off. I told my dad, who then went around and got the rest of money I was duo!!! I also worked at Mcdonalds, for a day though, at the Fosse Park branch, I went for an interview and was asked...'when can you start??', I said 'ASAP', and suddenly i'm watching an induction video and sweeping the floor......luckily I got a job offer the next day from Asda, so I quit!!!
hairy Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I used to deliver pizzas in a suburb of Melbourne, Oz. Every night I would have to take two to the local cop shop so I could drive like a twat all night and not get stopped. The people you delivered to were something else........... I got paid 'f' all for working 12 hrs through the night.

New boys also invariably get the worst jobs at most places anyway

New boys also invariably get the worst jobs at most places anyway I'll wipe my arse. I'll wipe my kids arses. If you asked nicely, and you had an ailment preventing you from doing it, I'd probably wipe yours for you too. But collect turds for Ronald McDonald? I have more respect for myself than that.

I find that attitude quite remarkable considering your lovely writing on the "fate" thread. There are many more people on this earth who do jobs like that and a lot worse for a living. Are you saying that you can't respect other people who do do things like that?

We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Daggers Posted 4 July 2006 Author Posted 4 July 2006 I find that attitude quite remarkable considering your lovely writing on the "fate" thread. There are many more people on this earth who do jobs like that and a lot worse for a living. Are you saying that you can't respect other people who do do things like that? No. I did not say that. There is an element of tongue in cheek about this thread, and I have nothing but the highest respect for anyone who performs a task that involves a level of self sacrifice. I think that if you sign up to serve fries and ask if you'd like the order upsized you'd be slightly surprised if your overweight sweaty manager asked you to start lifting turds off the floor. I am not passing comment on the value of certain jobs - I just fancied a fun discussion finding out what dumbass jobs people have done. In order to do this I have to give a few throwaway roles I have done in the past just to start it all off. Is that ok? No offense was intended.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 To be honest mate - somebody has to clean the mess up, so why shouldn't it be you?? New boys also invariably get the worst jobs at most places anyway That doesn't mean Disco Bob has to enjoy it just because someone has to do it. The whole point of this thread is that you put the crappiest job you ever had, which is usually based on how much you enjoyed the job, that kind of thing. Not many people I know would think that picking crap off the toilet floor is a good job. In fact, I'd imagine a lot of people would think it a, I dunno, crappy job. Whether someone has to do it or not, it don't make it good.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2006 Author Posted 4 July 2006 Yeah! Get off Disco Bob's case! Why? I'm having a real b*stard of a job shutting it...
The People's Hero Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I told you that you wouldn't need all those ra-ra skirts. You're only going away for a weekend, and it'll be bleddy cold in Scotland too!

Sigma Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Cutting red peppers for 8-hours a day. Sweeping rock dust (from crushed rocks) off of the floor for 12-hours - night shift.

In order to do this I have to give a few throwaway roles I have done in the past just to start it all off. Is that ok? No offense was intended. Its just the way you came across, it seemed as though how dare they ask me to pick up that pile of sh*t?? And when you mentioned that you have more self respect than doing that for RM, I was trying to point out that the person who did pick that pile of sh*t up, by your reckoning had less self respect for themselves. Anyway its a tongue in cheek thread, and I can't really comment on this cos I've only had 2 jobs in 10 years and have enjoyed them both thoroughly.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 you wont find turds on the floor in this branch..... Isn't that the main branch in nottingham next to the forest ground or the one in next to the ricoh in ocv???
