Can't believe I missed it!!!!

You're in good company.

Stuart Pearce apparently missed it too, and he was only 30 yards away!

Pearce said after the game "I saw Ben running into the corner at 110 mph" (BBC Sport)

Thatcher has really worked on his pace since leaving Leicester - Henry best watch out

Didn't see it. Was dead by 10.30 last night.

Apparently Pedro Mendes did not wake up until he arrived at hospital, sort of half knowing Manchester im guessing they took him to St Marys (happily stand corrected if someone else knows better) which is probabley about 20 minutes away inc traffic. So im guessing he must of been out for a good 30 - 40 minutes, which is a very very long time to be KO'ed.

Does anyone have any news on his condition? He's lucky theres no permenant damage.

I was more worried by the reaction of the portsmouth players!

Did you see the guy who picked up mendes by the head and started shaking him?

WTF? what if he had broken his neck? They didn't even bother putting him in the recovery position or ote they just thought lets shake his head a bit see if he wakes up

Your quite right, but that would have to of been the mother of all elbows to break his neck :D

It wouldn't have happened when Thatcher hit him, but when he fell into the advertising hoardings.

Duncan Ferguson actually served time in Scotland for a far lesser challenge than this!

Like I say I haven't seen it so I didn't see how he landed in the advertising boards.

yes I remember that, Thatcher deserves everything he gets no question.

worst challenge ever!! Infact I wouldn't even call it a challenge, more like assault!

No way - what about Keanes on Haaland? Cantona's on that Swindon Player, infact Cantona's entire red card collection!

Posted

This was far worse than any of those challenges.

Most of Cantona's red cards arose from referees seeking "trophies". Rather like Rooney's nowadays.

Come on Keanes 'intentional' stamp on Haalands knee which was so blatent he should have been banned for life (also bragged about it in his book), also ending his career was not worse - have a word!

that assualt by thatcher last night could have killed the guy.

its different from the pic shown here because he ran towards the player , not looking at the ball and deliberately took him down.

he then landed on top of his limp body and looked down as if to say job well done.

then he got up and just strolled away while the guys team mates were trying to bring him round.

Seem to recall a few years back if my hazy memory is correct that our own legend Steve Walsh spent a long time on the sidelines for an elbow against David Geddes I think. And then Arsenal's Paul Davis got the same treatment when he did the same against a Southampton bloke - nine games I think. I do stand to be corrected.

Basic point is though that Thatcher should be given a massive ban for this. Rooney got three games for tapping a guy on the lips in a pre-season friendly. What Thatcher did was 50 times worse.

Best line I've seen so far on it though was old Psycho Pearce himself - claiming on Beeb's website this morning that it looked a bit 'mis-timed'.

haha.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Marco Materazi.

I think he got away with this Scott free as well

I think he's what you call an Animal!!!

he has so many bad tackles to view on You Tube!!

heres a top 5 if that's possible!! number 3 is the best not only does he elbow Shevchenko in the face but he then attempts to kick him in the head as he falls over!!

Materazi

As I have said before he is the dirtyest basterd in football.

Thatcher was our best player the season he played for us in the Premiership. It's hard to like him though when he keeps doing stuff like this. Mind you, wasn't it Thatcher who Ashley Cole did that two-footed tackle on to get sent off at the Walkers that season?

.......................and how many of our holier than thou fans booed him when he next played at Filbert Street?

I'll tell you how many, none!

So come on.

It was a bad challenge and he deserve's to be punished for it, but most of you on here would not be satisfied if he was strung up

That was a poor challenge and deserved the red card it got, as well as the heavy fine from the FA when Keane mentioned it in his book, which also detailed the history between him and Haaland.

Haaland's career ending had nothing to do with Keane, though - it was due to an injury to the OTHER knee.

There is a slight difference between serving a TWELVE-game ban (as Walsh did - still the 2nd longest ever ban in league history), and escaping with a yellow card as Thatcher did.

The FA saw fit to hit Walshy with a disrepute charge even AFTER he'd served a three-match suspension.

They should do nothing less here, and maybe also give plod footage of the incident.

Caused according to doctors by a instantanious systamatic impact to the non-standing leg - eg a tackle, thats why he got compo!
