Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Rob Kelly did arrest the slide into Levein's man-made oblivion. However, I reckon his lack of experience in management and dealing with this shambles of a Board means he has taken the club as far as he can. It will end in tears but I hope he can leave with his head held high. Yes I agree, I think Rob Kelly has taken us as far as we can. WE NEED A NEW BOARD AND QUICK, one who is prepared to invest in players.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Because he is signing older players which may do you harm long term.Under Levein you had young and hungry players but admittedly the reason you struggled was because a lack of experience. But the team would have matured and you would have gained promotion back from league one and you would have become a decent championship side.I'm afraid all you are now is a mediocre championship side. I couldn't care less about 'foundations' our whatever else like that. I know I harp back to MA's regin often, but we got out of this league playing hoofball to a 34 year-old striker (Brian Deane). Then in the premiership, we had a terribly old team and only missed out on survival by about 5 points. Even Les Ferdinand at 38 scored 10! Plus, there is no guarentee that if we went down to league 1, we would bounce back up, just look at yourselves!
lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Just our position ?? For the size of our City and fanbase we should be competing in the Premiership. I'm afraid it makes me hate 'smaller' clubs like Charlton, Fulham and Wigan !! Both have rich people backing them and pumping them with enough finances to bring in decent players and compete in the Premiership (Mandaric-esque)
BartonFox Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 He lacks creativity, ambition and confidence tactically, as he is inexperienced. This will not change if we kick him out before he has had the chance to gain experience though Sorry but we don't have time for hime to cut his teeth and get experience. He has been around the pro game so he should have some sort of clue, but this season he has shown us nothing and his summer transfer activity (Kenton apart - a CL loanee) was a joke.
Ultra Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Nowhere will this be shown more than against Sunderland on Saturday where Hughes and Johnson will have to compete against Kavanagh and Miller. It doesn't take a genius to work out who is going to boss the game out of those midfielders. Presumably Weso will also be in the squad? I'm sure he'll be competitive if he comes on, whoever he's up against.
Daggers Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 ... and his summer transfer activity (Kenton apart - a CL loanee) was a joke. With no money to buy or afford decent wages what did you expect?
Ric Flair Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 We are regressing, this is worse than anything CL produced, and if our 2 bright spots are to out of their depth Porter and O'Grady the we have problems of a greater magnitude than first feared. The man never wanted the job, he said so himself; he "is a coach" so what changed? He doesn't have the self belief to do the job and you can see it in the way he sets out his teams, so defensive, so tepid so lacking in any inventiveness. At least Levein had an excuse he was a defender at heart. It seems that the masses only fully get it when the Club dips in to that bottom 3, then when it is in black n' white for all to see it final kicks in. The so called experts, Alan Birchenall and Jon Barber have been made to look foolish after all their early season posturing. Under Levein it was just as bad, we have the same players as then and they are falling back in to their comfort zones and under-achieving. But we are regressing rapidly and if Kelly has got any credentials as a manager he'll have to use them fast. Also you little rascal, Porter has been our best player for a month or so. If he's out of his depth then so are the other 20 players we have in this squad. Porter is the only one who can take any credit other than perhaps Kisnorbo during this season. The rest have been so inconsistent it's untrue.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 Barton - there's no way this is as bad as when we were losing every game over the Christmas/January period under Levein. Fact.
BartonFox Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 Barton - there's no way this is as bad as when we were losing every game over the Christmas/January period under Levein. Fact. Just because you use the word fact doesn't give your opinion anymore substance. This is much worse than under Levein and you well know it. Looks like another quality hire/decision by Dim Tim.

Okay we'll talk facts then. There are 39 games to go. At the moment we aren't in the bottom three, we have won two League games and we are not shipping goals left, right and centre. Things are dire but they are not as bad as they were under Levein when we lost so many games in a row over the winter period.

Strokes Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 oh deary deary me. Just look at the difference in goals
The Don Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 That was when we had connolly though!! As soon as we sold him, the goals dried up!!
Louise Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 That was when we had connolly though!! As soon as we sold him, the goals dried up!! Goals came from: Connolly - 4 De Vries - 3 Gudjonsson - 1 McCarthy - 1 Tiatto - 1
The Don Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 Goals came from: Connolly - 4 De Vries - 3 Gudjonsson - 1 McCarthy - 1 Tiatto - 1 Strikers with 7 goals in 7 games between them?? Thats unheard of!!!
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 Strikers with 7 goals in 7 games between them?? Thats unheard of!!! Well they bagged 5 in the first 2!
bigboy Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 backwards, if anything?!?! There is no confidence in the team. Yes backwards and will still be going backwards until we get a new midfield. One with some bite and drive, not this load of Cods Wallop!!!
Finn Claw Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 it is not really a simple answer. The league postion suggests backwards, the side including the emergence of O'grady, Porter, Kenton and Kisnorbo at the back imply progress. The big loss seems to have been Gudjohnsson - nobody has replaced him in the middle of the park, Joey leaving cannot be blamed on RK, who also had no money to buy a quality replacement. So you have to take account of the restrictions placed upon him. The ballsy decision would have been too sell Stearman, enrage all the fans in the ST and buy a couple of midfielders (Kavanagh?). LT it would have led to a more balanced side, we have both Kenton and Mayberry who are good enough RBs.

Thracian Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 That's the worst aspect so far this season -we haven't progressed in any direction and for various entirely predictable reasons. Kelly seems too rigid to me both as a coach and as a people manager for that matter. Kelly has not dealt with our major problems (left-back, midfield creativity) and has hardly distinguished himself in the transfer market, a fact which has not surprised me ever since he bought Rufus Brevett to the club. Tactically he has been bizarre at times, the first two team selections this season and the second half against West Brom stand out. Nor do we seem to excel at set pieces which is one area where I'd have thought a specialist coach would shine. Players seem uninspired - far too many previously reasonable players are performing below their best and various incidents at the club suggest the atmosphere is not all it should be. Second half at West Brom was a major setback not because we lost but how we lost. Kelly is portrayed as a "great bloke" so it is hard to explain especially considering, when I've seen Beaglehome and Stowell on their own, the atmosphere among players has seemed great. The demise of the Reserves has done great harm and yet little seems to have been done to right the situation despite the promise of regular behind closed doors fixtures. We've had one that I've heard of so far and players are being sent out to supposedly get "match fitness". Gates are dropping on the back not only of results but the type of football we are producing so altogether the picture is lacking highlights apart from the performances of a few individuals and the retaining of Stearman which would be fine if we are really going to persevere with building a young attacking side rather than the halfway house we have now. Otherwise even that makes little sense and whatever the reasons he is presently nothing like the player he was (though I didn't see the Hull game). In fact Stearman, Sheehan, Fryatt, Hume, Low all seem or seem to have seriously dipped below their best and you have to wonder why.
